Job summary

Ardmac is seeking a Health and Safety professional to implement and uphold safety standards across Dublin-based construction sites, with weekly travel to other regions in Ireland. You will promote best practices, ensure statutory compliance, and support project teams in maintaining safe and productive environments.

The role requires a Dip OHS, at least five years of experience in construction HSE, and proficiency with MS Office and digital safety tools.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (Dip OHS) or equivalent.
  • 5 years' experience in construction health and safety
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital health and safety management tools

Responsibilities

  • Verify that subcontractors meet all health and safety prequalification standards before work commencement.
  • Review and approve detailed methodologies, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements, for all construction activities.
  • Assist project teams in the creation, review, and maintenance of the Construction Phase Plan, Health and Safety Files, and Project Quality Plans.
  • Ensure adequate induction and task-specific training is completed for all site personnel.
  • Review statutory plant and equipment training records to ensure compliance.
  • Confirm that weekly Toolbox Talks are conducted by site management teams.
  • Guide and support the use of task-specific Safe Plans of Action (SPAs) by all project personnel.
  • Ensure Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Plans are developed and adhered to.

Job Purpose

To implement and uphold Ardmac's health and safety standards, promote best practices, ensure compliance with statutory obligations and industry standards, and support the team in maintaining a safe and productive working environment across all construction projects. This position is located in Dublin but will involve weekly travel to other regions within Ireland.

Duties and Responsibilities
Task Planning and Implementation
  • Verify that subcontractors meet all health and safety prequalification standards before work commencement.
  • Review and approve detailed methodologies, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements, for all construction activities.
  • Assist project teams in the creation, review, and maintenance of the Construction Phase Plan, Health and Safety Files, and Project Quality Plans.

Coordination and Oversight
  • Facilitate pre-commencement coordination meetings to align teams on health and safety expectations.
  • Actively participate in daily site White Board and coordination meetings, offering guidance as needed.
  • Provide ongoing support and recommendations to ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures.
Engagement and Training
  • Promote Ardmac's commitment to safety through meaningful engagement, including Safety First conversations
  • Mentor and coach new team members on effective health and safety participation and practices
  • Conduct and document weekly site health, safety, and environmental (HSE) audits
Incident Management and Reporting
  • Investigate and document incidents and accidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Liaise with client representatives and attend meetings to address health and safety concerns
  • Collaborate with site teams to review and improve project-specific safety performance
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications
  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (Dip OHS) or equivalent.
  • Comprehensive understanding of health and safety best practices in the construction industry.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in construction health and safety
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital health and safety management tools
Desirable Experience
  • Practical experience in implementing health and safety protocols in construction environments.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards, particularly ISO 45001
