Job summary

MACOM is seeking an Electronic Design Engineer, Principal in Ireland to plan, execute, and analyse reliability tests for semiconductor technologies (GaN, GaAs) in line with JEDEC JESD47 standards.

You will perform device characterisation, develop qualification plans, run accelerated tests, analyse data, and conduct failure investigations. The role includes training interns and leading lab activities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electronics-related field with 4–6 years’ experience in reliability testing.
  • Master’s degree with 3–4 years in reliability or PhD with semiconductor experience.
  • New PhD graduates whose research was primarily on semiconductor technologies welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out qualification of new semiconductor processes and products per JEDEC JESD47.
  • Perform detailed semiconductor device characterisation and communicate results.
  • Develop qualification plans including risk analysis.
  • Conduct accelerated reliability tests (temperature, voltage, current, etc.).
  • Analyze data to identify potential degradation in product performance.
  • Carry out failure analysis investigations and propose solutions.
  • Maintain lab equipment and assist in intern training.
  • Supervise intern projects and other duties as assigned.

The Electronic Design Engineer, Principal will utilize specialized in-depth knowledge to develop, design, and support broadband high‑speed optical/electrical interface products. Will demonstrate conceptual and practical expertise in electronic design challenges and basic knowledge of related disciplines.

Job Description

This position involves the planning, execution, and analysis of reliability tests for semiconductor technologies used at MACOM. These include compound semiconductor technologies (GaN & GaAs), and other semiconductor technologies. Ability to execute multiple concurrent qualification projects and solve complex problems under limited supervision. Must be capable of successfully performing in a demanding, fast‑paced environment.

Main Duties And Responsibilities
  • To carry out qualification of new semiconductor processes and products across a range of innovative technologies, in accordance with JEDEC JESD47 and other related standards
  • Conduct hands‑on detailed semiconductor device characterisation, analyse and communicate results with clear conclusions
  • Conduct reliability assessments and develop qualification plans including risk analysis
  • Conduct accelerated evaluations of reliability using temperature, voltage, current & other stresses
  • Perform data analysis to identify potential degradation in product performance
  • Carry out detailed failure analysis investigations, determine conclusions and propose solutions were appropriate
  • Carry out equipment and test set ups in the laboratory and equipment maintenance
  • Contribute in the training of interns or other staff members
  • Supervise and develop intern practical work projects
  • Any and all other duties assigned by your manager
Key Competencies Required
  • Experience with setting up and modifying hardware & software in a laboratory environment
  • Strong PC skills required (MSWORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT. etc.); experience with software development for instrumentation control or automated data analysis desired (Labview, Python, C, or equivalent)
  • Experience with semiconductor device physics, failure modes, and electrical measurements required, especially as related to compound semiconductor technologies.
  • Must be familiar with statistical data analysis; experience with applications such as Minitab and/or JMP preferred
  • Problem solving skills - capable of analyzing weakly defined requirements, ultimately defining the issues and developing long and short term solutions
  • Candidates must have excellent communication skills and be able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Well-practiced organization and planning skills
  • Experience with thermal and/or physical simulation a plus
  • Experience of RF circuit design advantageous
Minimum Qualifications & Work Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an electronics‑related field (EE, EET, Physics, Materials Science …) required with 4 to 6 years’ experience, and a good knowledge of reliability testing, and qualification of semiconductor technologies
  • or Masters Degree with 3 to 4 years' experience in reliability required (semiconductor quality engineering experience would be considered)
  • or PhD with academic / industry experience of semiconductor technologies
  • New PhD graduates whose research was primarily on semiconductor technologies are very welcome to apply
