Job summary

Gaia Talent in Ireland seeks a Senior Project Planner to lead planning workstreams across infrastructure, energy, environmental, residential, commercial and public-sector projects.

The role involves providing expert planning advice to clients and multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating planning applications and supporting documentation, and managing planning deliverables from initial stages through to submission and project completion.

Qualifications

  • Requires Level 8 Honours Degree in Planning or related discipline.
  • Significant professional planning experience (typically 5–7 years).
  • Membership of IPI or RTPI or progression towards Chartered Planner status is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning workstreams across a diverse project portfolio in Ireland.
  • Prepare, review and coordinate planning applications and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate planning deliverables from initial stages through submission and completion.
  • Liaise with planning authorities, statutory consultees and stakeholders; represent at consultations and hearings.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Graduate Planners and Planners.

Job description

Our client is looking for a Senior Project Planner to be responsible for leading planning workstreams across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, energy, environmental, residential, commercial and public-sector projects throughout Ireland. The role involves providing expert planning advice to clients and multidisciplinary project teams, preparing, reviewing and coordinating planning applications and supporting documentation, and managing planning deliverables from initial stages through to submission and project completion.

Key responsibilities include:
  • managing project programmes, budgets and planning deliverables;
  • reviewing planning reports, drawings, figures and technical documentation;
  • undertaking quality assurance reviews;
  • liaising with planning authorities, An Bord Pleanála, statutory consultees and other stakeholders;
  • representing projects at pre-planning consultations, progress meetings, public consultations and stakeholder engagement events, as well as supporting oral hearings and planning appeals;
  • preparing and reviewing planning sections of EIARs, PECRs and related environmental documentation, while also contributing to tender submissions, fee proposals and business development;
  • coordinating planning inputs across multidisciplinary teams and providing technical guidance, mentoring and support to Graduate Planners and Planners.
The successful candidate will require:
  • a Level 8 Honours Degree in Planning or a closely related discipline;
  • significant professional planning experience and typically 5-7 years' experience;
  • corporate membership of the Irish Planning Institute or Royal Town Planning Institute, or progression towards Chartered Planner status, is required;
  • strong knowledge of Irish planning legislation, policy and development management processes, together with excellent project management, report-writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills;
  • experience in infrastructure, utilities, renewable energy or environmental projects and knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment processes are desirable.
