Job summary

ESB is seeking a Senior Site Civil Engineer / Site Manager to lead on-site civil works for large generation projects across Ireland, ensuring quality, safety and regulatory compliance while managing contractors and site staff.

The role starts with a renewable solar project in the Southeast for about six months and may move to other large projects nationwide, including Thermal OCGT, Solar and dismantling of assets. A Level 8 Civil Engineering degree and 5 years’ experience are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage, monitor and supervise all on-site activities of Contractors on generation project construction and demolition contracts.
• Assist with administration of main contracts on site and correspondence with Contractors.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and planning regulations.
• Act as point of contact for the project team on site.
• Monitor progress and prepare regular reports for the project team and senior management.
• Coordinate with project managers, design engineers, safety/env specialists and stakeholders for seamless contract execution.
• Undertake QA documentation and site inspection/test plan reviews.
• Resolve on-site issues with project team members.
• Maintain detailed records of site activities and incidents.
• Support assessment and resolution of Contractor’s claims and commercial risks.
• Assist with Third Party Stakeholder Management including Landowners.

• Project Management qualification.

The Senior Site Civil Engineer / Site Manager role involves overseeing the day-to-day operations and management of Contractors undertaking civil works contracts on largescale generation projects as it delivers on its Net Zero 2040 strategy.

The successful candidate will initially be assigned to a renewable solar project construction site located in the Southeast of Ireland for an expected duration of 6 months and thereafter will work on further largescale generation construction sites, with opportunities including but not limited to Thermal OCGT, Solar Projects and Demolition/Controlled Dismantling of existing Generation Power Station assets. The projects in Ireland are located throughout the country.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring project contracts are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality, safety, environmental and planning compliance as well as commercial and contract adherence. The role also involves assisting with the mentoring and professional development of junior staff.

The role will involve full-time assignment to the particular project site.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage, monitor and supervise all on-site activities of our Contractors, specifically for generation projects construction and/or demolition contracts during enabling works, main construction and commissioning activities.
• Assist with the administration of the Contracts for main Contractors on site, including corresponding with the Contractor in relation to all site issues.
• Ensure strong compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, and planning compliance, with a strong emphasis on the specific challenges of electricity generating power plant construction.
• Act as the point of contact for the project team, on site for the specified project.
• Monitor project progress and prepare regular reports for the overall project team and senior management.
• Coordinate with project managers, design engineers, safety specialists, environmental specialists and other stakeholders to ensure seamless Contract execution.
• Undertake Quality Assurance documentation and Site Inspection Test Plan reviews, audits and checks of the civil works on the site throughout the construction period.
• Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise on-site promptly and effectively in collaboration with other project team members.
• Maintain detailed and accurate records of site activities, including daily logs, inspections, and incident reports.
• Support the assessment and resolution of Contractor’s claims and commercial risks.
• Support the project team with Third Party Stakeholder Management including Landowners interactions.

Experience and Qualifications

• Level 8 Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent third level qualification in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil engineering with demonstrated experience of construction site management for energy infrastructure projects, delivered to the highest professional standards.
• Good working knowledge of FIDIC Contracts and the administration of Contracts in this form.
• Experience of stakeholder engagements with internal and external relevant parties and authorities.
• Proven track record with demonstrated ability to deliver own work to the highest professional standards.
• A flexible approach to work, to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines to deliver excellent client service.
• Ability to make quality decisions and judgements.
• Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure.
• Excellent communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient IT skills.
• Full driving license with access to a car.

Desirable

• Acted in the position of Site Resident Civil Engineer and/or Site Manager in previous energy utility infrastructure projects.
• Chartered status of a recognised professional institution.
• Project Management qualification.

Location

This is a full-time onsite role based in Ireland. The successful candidate will be located at a generation project site on a full-time basis though travel to other Irish based generation projects may be required from time to time. Travel to EMP Head Office in Dublin may also be required from time to time.

The base location associated with this role for the successful candidate will be EMP Offices at The Sidings Building, Dublin 2 or Eastgate, Little Island, Cork.

Reporting To

The successful candidate will report to the Manager, Construction, Commercial, and Contracts Group within Generation Engineering Delivery.
