Job summary

Astronomer is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Platform Engineering to design, test, and deploy our production infrastructure at scale. You will influence how Astro, Observe, and our IDE product build reliable data pipelines and cloud-native systems across globally distributed teams.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in non-abstract systems design and implementation.
• Strong proficiency in Python and Golang; deep Kubernetes experience (CKA or equivalent).
• Experience with observability principles and defining SLI/SLOs.
• Strong communication skills in a globally distributed delivery team.
• Passion for reliability and operational excellence with low toil.
• Ability to estimate scope and coordinate with stakeholders to deliver.
• Experience with software development practices: code review, testing, CI/CD, version control, automation, debugging.
• Proactive ownership and accountability in problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Make high-quality, data-driven decisions on how we build our production platform and deliver results.
• Own and build how we test, build and deploy code in a high-scale PaaS environment.
• Collaborate across the company on production systems design and technology choices.
• Deliver results in a safe, reliable way while evolving our platform.
• Be at the forefront of Platform Engineering teamwork; drive Platform/Reliability practice growth.
• Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation for systems and processes.
