Job summary

Nua Healthcare Services is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the expanding OT team in a well-established Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit in North Cork. You will manage a caseload and work with a diverse multidisciplinary team to deliver occupation-based interventions that support recovery and functional independence.

Qualifications

  • Hold a qualification in Occupational Therapy recognised by CORU.
  • Minimum three years post-qualification experience in OT.
  • At least one year in a mental health setting with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience running occupation-based and psycho-educational groups.
  • Knowledge of care planning, risk assessment and risk management.
  • Familiarity with sensory processing difficulties.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload with assessments, evidence-based interventions and evaluation of treatment programmes.
  • Deliver OT assessment and interventions considering self-care, productive and leisure occupations.
  • Work with the multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists and others.
  • Develop and facilitate individual and group therapy programmes in the mental health unit.
  • Promote recovery-oriented OT practices in interactions with service users and staff.
  • Contribute to care planning, risk assessment and documentation quality.
  • Provide support for implementation of OT recommendations and supervision of staff.

We are currently seeking applications from Senior Occupational Therapists interested in joining the expanding Occupational Therapy team within Nua Healthcare. The Occupational Therapist will be working with adults in a well-established Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit based in North Cork working alongside a diverse multidisciplinary team. Job Objectives
  • Manage a caseload, carrying out assessments, evidenced based intervention and evaluation of treatment programmes for individuals presenting with complex mental health difficulties residing in an approved centre.
  • Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention is to be provided with consideration for self-care, productive and leisure occupations.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary working with members of the clinical team including but not limited to Consultant Psychiatrists, Behaviour Specialists, Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Care Workers and Assistance Support Workers to meet the person-centred needs of individuals on your caseload.
  • Develop and facilitate individual and group therapy programmes within the mental health unit based on the identified occupational performance difficulties of individuals.
  • Promote recovery-oriented occupational therapy practice in your interactions and work with individuals, staff and other key stakeholders.
  • Participate in promoting compliance with the Judgement Support Framework
  • Contribute to individual care planning, risk assessment and risk management.
  • Complete detailed reports for internal/external stakeholders and ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and reports are in accordance with Nua Healthcare policy and professional standards.
  • Provide support to key stakeholders for carry over of Occupational Therapy recommendations.
  • Attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical department meetings and occupational therapy department meetings.
  • Direct and supervise Occupational Therapy students and Occupational Therapists.
  • Deputise for the Occupational Therapy Manager as required.
  • Attend and work the days and hours which s/he is assigned.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and behaviour by adhering to legal, ethical and professional practice standards in all aspects of practice.
  • Maintain files and records on service users in accordance with the records policy.
  • Attend and present at internal and external conferences/ courses relevant to practice.
  • Participate in and follow up on actions set or learnings identified from clinical supervision and performance appraisals.
  • Participate in annual Occupational Therapy Department Strategic Planning meetings and support the attainment of quality improvement goals.
  • Contribute to the sharing of knowledge and best practice both within the Occupational Therapy Department, Approved Centre and wider Nua Healthcare Service.
  • Promote the Nua Healthcare Occupational Therapy Department at both a local and national level.
  • Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Be aware of and implement agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Report any incidents/accidents/near misses in accordance with Nua Healthcare policies and procedures.
  • Complete any mandatory trainings assigned through Nua Healthcare's Learning Management System.
Skills Requirement Qualifications
  • Hold a qualification in Occupational Therapy recognised by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU
  • Have at least three years relevant post qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist, with at least one year experience working in a mental health setting alongside a multidisciplinary team
  • Have experience in running therapeutic services and programs including occupation-based and psycho-educational groups
  • Possess a knowledge of individual care planning and experience contributing to risk assessment and risk management
  • Knowledge, training and experience supporting those with sensory processing difficulties
  • Knowledge of the Judgement Support Framework and experience supporting compliance with same
  • Keen interest in working with adults presenting with complex mental health difficulties at varying stages of their recovery
  • Have a willingness to support the ongoing development of the occupational therapy department with a desire to engage in service development and quality improvement projects
  • Be committed to the delivery of quality, person-centred, community-based services
  • Have excellent communication and team-working skills
  • Have excellent time management skills and the ability to work in a self-directed manner in a dynamic fast paced environment
