Job summary

Nua Healthcare Services is seeking a Staff Grade Occupational Therapist to join our expanding Occupational Therapy team in North Cork. The role involves working with adults with complex mental health needs within a well-established unit, collaborating with a diverse MDT to deliver person-centred care.

The successful candidate will hold CORU registration and bring a strong background in therapeutic services, risk assessment, and group-based programs, contributing to service development and CPD.

Qualifications

  • Hold a qualification in Occupational Therapy recognised by CORU.
  • Experience in running therapeutic services and programs including occupation-based and psycho-educational groups.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and risk management.
  • Knowledge of sensory processing difficulties.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an allocated caseload of individuals with complex mental health needs.
  • Develop and facilitate individual and group OT programmes.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary teamwork with medical and allied staff.
  • Prepare detailed reports and care plans in line with organisational policies.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and CPD activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to service development.

Job Summary

Nua Healthcare Services (Nua) is one of Ireland’s leading Private Healthcare Providers, specialising in Residential and Supported Living Services, to both Children and Adults with a range of complex support needs. We are currently seeking applications from a suitability qualified Staff Grade Occupational Therapist interested in joining the expanding Occupational Therapy team within Nua Healthcare. The Occupational Therapist will work with adults in a well-established Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit based in North Cork working alongside a Senior Occupational Therapist and a diverse multidisciplinary team. Candidates must demonstrate the necessary interest, capability, performance and enthusiasm in line with the requirements of this role.

Job Objectives
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage an allocated caseload of individuals presenting with complex mental health difficulties, providing comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessment, evidence-based intervention and evaluation of treatment programmes.
  • Provide person-centred Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention across self-care, productive and leisure occupations, based on identified occupational performance needs.
  • Develop and facilitate individual and group Occupational Therapy programmes within the mental health unit.
  • Engage in effective interdisciplinary working with members of the clinical team, including Consultant Psychiatrists, Behaviour Specialists, Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Care Workers and Assistant Support Workers, to support the person-centred needs and outcomes of individuals.
  • Promote recovery-oriented Occupational Therapy practice in all interactions and interventions with individuals, staff and key stakeholders.
  • Participate in promoting compliance with the Judgement Support Framework.
  • Contribute to individual care planning, risk assessment and risk management.
  • Complete detailed and accurate reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and reports meet Nua Healthcare policies and relevant professional standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to key stakeholders to facilitate the effective implementation and carry-over of Occupational Therapy recommendations and interventions.
  • Attend and actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical department meetings and Occupational Therapy department meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date files and records relating to individuals in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and behaviour by adhering to all relevant legal, ethical and professional practice standards.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and performance appraisals, and implement and follow up on agreed actions and learning identified through these processes.
  • Maintain and develop professional knowledge and skills through attendance at relevant courses, conferences, training and continuing professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to annual Occupational Therapy Department strategic planning and support the achievement of agreed quality improvement objectives.
  • Contribute to the sharing of knowledge, skills and best practice within the Occupational Therapy Department, Approved Centre and wider Nua Healthcare service.
  • Support the promotion and development of the Nua Healthcare Occupational Therapy Department at local and national level.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, organisational policies and professional standards.
  • Be aware of and implement all relevant policies, procedures, legislation, regulations and standards relating to safe and professional practice.
  • Report all incidents, accidents and near misses in accordance with Nua Healthcare policies and procedures.
  • Complete all mandatory training assigned through Nua Healthcare’s Learning Management System within the required timeframes.
  • Attend and work the days and hours assigned in accordance with service requirements.

Skills Requirement
Qualification
  • Hold a qualification in Occupational Therapy recognised by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
Knowledge
  • Have experience in running therapeutic services and programs including occupation-based and psycho-educational groups Possess a knowledge of individual care planning and experience contributing to risk assessment and risk management
  • Knowledge, training and experience supporting those with sensory processing difficulties
  • Knowledge of the Judgement Support Framework and experience supporting compliance with same
Experience
  • Have at least one year's relevant post qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist preferably in adult mental health services or evidence of undergraduate experience in a mental health setting.
