Job summary

Morgan McKinley in Cork is partnering with a client to hire an experienced Network Engineer (CCNP level) on a contract basis. The role focuses on Layer 2/Layer 3 enterprise switching and driving network automation across the infrastructure.

You will optimize high-availability campus and data center environments, build automation workflows with Python and Ansible, and contribute to standard change control processes while maintaining network documentation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a dedicated Enterprise or Data Center Network Engineering role.
• CCNP level depth or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven hands-on proficiency with Python, Ansible, and REST APIs applied to network tasks.
• Deep expertise in L2/L3 protocols (VLANs, MC-LAG, VRRP, STP, OSPF, BGP).
• Familiarity with major enterprise vendor platforms (Cisco, Dell OS10, Arista, or Juniper).
• Strong fundamentals in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and enterprise network security.

Responsibilities

• L2/L3 Switching & Routing: Design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure using VLANs, MC-LAG, VRRP, STP, and OSPF/BGP.
• Network Automation: Build and deploy Python scripts and Ansible playbooks for automated provisioning and configuration management.
• Wireless Support: Maintain and optimize Enterprise Wireless Controllers (WLCs) and APs.
• Troubleshooting & RCA: Perform root cause analysis on complex network incidents across multi-vendor environments.
• Documentation & Standards: Maintain precise network topologies, procedures, and change control processes.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role focused on Layer 2 / Layer 3 enterprise switching and driving network automation across their infrastructure. You will play a key part in optimizing high-availability campus and data center environments while building out automation workflows to streamline day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

• L2/L3 Switching & Routing: Design, configure, and maintain robust network infrastructure utilizing VLANs, MC-LAG, VRRP, STP, and dynamic routing (OSPF, BGP).
