Job summary

AIR Sligo, part of the AIR Group, seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and implementation of automated equipment for global manufacturing clients.

You will develop innovative concepts from customer requirements, design mechatronic systems in SolidWorks, and lead the build and commissioning of solutions. Strong communication, ownership, and a drive to stay at the cutting edge of automation are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of automation project experience.
• Proficient in 3D CAD, SolidWorks.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Work within the design team to develop innovative concepts from customer requirements.
• 3D design of mechatronic equipment including mechanisms, transfer systems, servo systems, robotics, pneumatics, electrical equipment and machine guarding systems.
• Hands-on involvement at build and debug stage to ensure designs meet performance specifications.
• Take responsibility for large projects and manage cross-functional teams through the life cycle of a project.
• Guide machine build technicians to realise designs.
• Ensure that customer end goals are achieved.
• Design and implement process improvements for existing automation equipment.
• Prepare detailed tooling drawings and pneumatic schematics.
• Liaise with suppliers for component procurement.
• Liaise with customers on requirements and deliverables.
• Prepare detailed safety risk assessments and FMEAs.
• Develop machine documentation to meet EU standards.
• Communicate effectively within a technical team on job specs and issues.
