What you will do
This is a senior manufacturing engineering role within, Manufacturing Enablement Engineering Team (MEE). In it, you will own new manufacturing technology from concept through to production across Johnson Controls' sites. Working concurrently with design teams, you provide manufacturing feasibility input early - informing design for manufacture - and where a required capability does not yet exist, you bring it in and prove it.
It is a broad, technology-led, hands-on role for someone who has worked across several manufacturing technologies - such as laser processing, precision joining, machining, automation, or process development - with real depth in one or two, and who can flex to whatever a deployment needs. You will run deployments end to end and act as a technical right hand across MEE's workstreams, deepening into your strongest areas or leading broader projects as the team grows.
How You Will Do It
- Provide manufacturing feasibility assessments for product designs and engineering changes, feeding design-for-manufacture input back to the design teams early.
- Define, develop, and deploy manufacturing processes and capital equipment across multiple sites, from concept through to production.
- Develop process flow, layout, and equipment and tooling requirements for new capability.
- Evaluate and select technology, equipment, and vendors; run trials at evaluation scale; and recommend the path forward with the evidence behind it.
- Project-manage the procurement, build, installation, and acceptance of equipment - requiring supplier factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) as a condition of purchase.
- Lead commissioning, tuning, and production ramp; own process qualification (installation, operation, and performance) of the deployed capability.
- Complete process FMEA and control plans to identify and manage process risk.
- Capture each deployment as a repeatable pattern and hand it over to the site team against a signed acceptance - then replicate across sites, compressing the timeline each time.
Essential
What we look for
- Senior advanced-manufacturing or manufacturing engineering experience, able to run a deployment end to end (indicative: 7+ years - adjust to suit).
- Demonstrated experience defining manufacturing processes and leading capital-equipment implementation from concept through to production.
- Breadth across several manufacturing technologies - such as laser processing, precision joining, machining, automation, or process development - with real depth in one or two.
- Design-for-manufacture experience: providing manufacturing input into product design and engineering changes.
- Hands-on commissioning and integration - taking equipment from install to stable production.
- Process FMEA, control plans, and structured problem-solving.
- Comfortable engaging vendors and working cross-functionally with engineering, operations, sourcing, and quality.
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Willingness to travel to sites as deployments require.
Desirable
- Precision joining / vacuum brazing - a current priority capability area; strongly valued.
- Additive manufacturing - exposure to metal or polymer AM.
- New Product Introduction - experience with NPI tollgate or stage-gate processes.
- Lean / Six Sigma - process optimisation and continuous-improvement methods.
