Job summary

Northern Trust is seeking an experienced Senior Lead, Security Engineer to deliver and operationalize enterprise security platforms across the organization. The role blends hands-on engineering with technical ownership, partnering with engineering, infrastructure, risk and audit to ensure scalable security capabilities.

The candidate will design and operate tools across zero‑trust, SASE/SSE, vulnerability management and cloud security, while contributing to governance, runbooks and auditable

Qualifications

• Typically 12+ years of IT/cybersecurity experience with hands‑on platform engineering.
• Experience delivering enterprise security platforms with governance and compliance.
• Strong ability to balance security, reliability, usability and regulatory requirements.
• Proficient in scripting and API integration for security tooling.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to security platform engineering decisions and governance.
• Design, engineer and operate tools spanning zero‑trust, SASE/SSE, network, vulnerability & exposure management, AI guardrails, and SaaS.
• Publish runbooks and executive‑level documentation for engineering, operations, risk and audit.
• Develop metrics to measure coverage, control effectiveness and risk reduction.
• Support audits and regulatory exams with evidence quality and traceability.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on security initiatives.
