Job summary

Oliver James Associates Ltd. in Dublin City Centre is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with expertise in Java to join a fast-paced tech team. This hybrid role requires 3 days on site per week in Dublin, with ongoing rolling contract discussions based on performance.

You'll design, develop and deliver scalable backend services and RESTful APIs, collaborate with product managers and QA, and contribute to engineering best practices while solving complex technical challenges.

Qualifications

• Experience building backend services in Java
• Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs and microservices

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain robust, scalable backend services using Java and modern backend technologies.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and distributed services.
• Contribute to architectural and technical design decisions.
• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
• Work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, QA and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality products.
• Identify and resolve performance, scalability and reliability issues.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
• Support automated testing, CI/CD and deployment processes.
• Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to root-cause analysis.
• Mentor and support less experienced engineers where appropriate.
• Contribute to an Agile/Scrum development environment.
