Job summary

Mastercard in Dublin is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to join our real-time decisioning platform. You will own features end-to-end, design high-performance services, and contribute to a distributed, in-memory caching layer that underpins global transaction processing.

You’ll work in a collaborative Agile team, mentor colleagues, and drive quality through automated testing, robust design patterns and resilient, low-latency solutions for payments at scale.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency with modern Java (JDK 17+) and distributed systems.
• Experience with Spring, RESTful APIs, and SQL databases.
• Experience with in-memory data grids (Geode, Hazelcast, Redis) is desirable.
• Knowledge of CI/CD and test automation.
• Familiarity with PCI-DSS considerations for payment data.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end delivery — Own complex features and services across the full software development lifecycle: architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, rollback planning and documentation.
• Design & innovation — Design and implement high-performance, scalable and secure Java capabilities; apply advanced design patterns and API standards; produce design documentation.
• Independent problem-solving — Debug and troubleshoot across multi-tiered systems; design resilient solutions.
• Technical leadership & influence — Lead code, design and process trade-off discussions; review code and tests; drive standards.
• Release & delivery coordination — Coordinate releases across follow-the-sun engineering model with cross-team sign-offs.
• Operational excellence — Participate in on-call, lead incident management and remediation; improve performance metrics.
• Mentoring & knowledge sharing — Mentor engineers and share knowledge across the team.
• Continuous improvement — Automate build/run activities and evaluate emerging technologies.
