We are seeking an experienced Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to join our Capital Projects Managed Services team supporting a global pharmaceutical client.
This is a site-based role working across multiple capital projects, with responsibility for the delivery of I&C engineering activities throughout the full project lifecycle — from concept and detailed design through to construction, commissioning and project closeout.
The successful candidate will work closely with project, engineering, construction and client teams to deliver high-quality I&C solutions in a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the development, review and approval of I&C engineering deliverables across multiple projects.
- Develop technical solutions based on project requirements, process needs and client standards.
- Prepare and review I&C specifications, design documents, drawings, calculations, FAT documentation and SOPs.
- Coordinate I&C design activities through concept, master planning and detailed design phases.
- Provide technical support during construction, commissioning and project closeout.
- Coordinate and develop I&C tender and construction packages.
- Analyse existing systems and develop engineering solutions for upgrades and new installations.
- Work collaboratively with project and engineering disciplines, vendors, contractors and client stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the client and project teams.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with cGMP, EHS, GAMP, Global Engineering standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support the development of new I&C engineering processes, standards and procedures.
I&C Engineering Deliverables
Experience in the preparation, review and management of the following would be expected:
- Instrument selection and instrument datasheets
- P&IDs and process control documentation
- Instrument and I/O schedules
- Panel interconnection and wiring drawings
- Network and architecture diagrams
- Electrical block diagrams
- User Requirement Specifications (URS)
- Process control narratives
- FAT documentation and related project deliverables
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum 5 years' relevant I&C engineering experience, ideally within pharmaceutical, life sciences or other highly regulated industries.
- A relevant third-level engineering qualification.
- Strong experience in I&C design and engineering across the project lifecycle.
- A good understanding of cGMP, GAMP and pharmaceutical engineering standards.
- Experience producing and reviewing I&C drawings, schedules, specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience supporting tendering, construction and commissioning activities.
- Strong problem-solving and technical analysis skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
- A proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and project deliverables.
