Job summary

EMBS Talent Group is seeking a Senior Substation Manager on behalf of a growing energy infrastructure business delivering HV substation projects across Ireland. This permanent, senior leadership role oversees HV substation installation and pre-commissioning across multiple projects and teams.

You will lead and develop multidisciplinary teams, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and drive delivery on time and within budget while maintaining high quality standards across projects spanning

Qualifications

• 10+ years' HV substation construction/installation experience.
• Proven leadership of large technical teams.
• Background in energy infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of HV substations, with experience in construction, testing and pre-commissioning.
• Knowledge of Irish standards and grid codes.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop substation managers, engineers, site managers and supervisors, building high-performing multidisciplinary teams across construction and pre-commissioning activities.
• Set clear objectives, manage performance, support succession planning and promote a strong safety-first culture.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme and within budget, overseeing planning, resourcing and reporting, and supporting tendering and bid reviews.
• Act as a senior duty holder for HSEQ, ensuring compliance with Irish standards (ESB Networks, EirGrid, HSA), reviewing RAMS and pre-commissioning procedures and leading incident investigations.
• Provide technical leadership on installation and pre-commissioning activities, supporting technical reviews and value engineering, and overseeing QA, inspections, testing and handover.
• Act as a senior client contact, building relationships with stakeholders and representing the business at meetings and audits.
