Job summary

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is seeking a Senior AI Engineer in Ireland to design and operate production AI agents using enterprise data. You will build end-to-end LLM-powered workflows, integrate with data platforms, and ensure governance, privacy, and compliance across the data lifecycle.

The role supports hybrid work between Dublin/Letterkenny office and home-based setups, offering professional growth within healthcare tech.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven experience building and operating production data pipelines and platforms in public cloud environments.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python with data processing libraries.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake and Databricks.
• Proven experience developing Generative AI applications using Azure OpenAI, RAG, embeddings, and vector search.
• Experience designing semantic models and data abstractions for natural language analytics.

Responsibilities

• Design and productionize LLM-powered solutions using Azure OpenAI.
• Design agent instructions, tools, and orchestration flows.
• Build guardrails, validation, and fallback behaviour.
• Integrate agents with APIs, applications, and enterprise services.
• Ensure data governance, quality, and privacy across data lifecycles.
