Job summary

Fulcrum Digital Inc is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable Go services and APIs. You will work on event-driven architectures, implement REST and gRPC interfaces, and drive production readiness across cloud platforms with Docker and Kubernetes.

The role requires strong testing discipline, deep knowledge of data stores, messaging systems, and security practices, with collaboration across squads and client stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• 3+ years building production systems in Go.
• Strong knowledge of Go concurrency, the standard library, error handling, context and modules.
• Proven experience designing microservices and distributed systems.
• Hands-on with REST and gRPC (Protocol Buffers).
• Strong SQL and NoSQL skills, e.g. PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB or DynamoDB.
• Experience with messaging and streaming platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or NATS.
• Production experience with Docker, Kubernetes and at least one major cloud (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Testing discipline: unit, integration and contract tests; familiarity with TDD.
• CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins.
• Observability with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry or Datadog.
• Solid grasp of security fundamentals: OAuth2, OIDC, TLS, secrets management.
• Clear written and spoken English, and confidence working with clients.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs in Go.
• Write clean, idiomatic, well-tested code, with strong unit and integration test coverage.
• Build event-driven and concurrent systems using goroutines, channels and message brokers such as Kafka.
• Design REST and gRPC APIs with clear contracts, versioning and documentation.
• Deploy and operate services on AWS, Azure or GCP using Docker, Kubernetes and infrastructure as code.
• Own CI/CD pipelines, observability (logging, metrics, tracing) and production support for your services.
• Apply secure coding practices and support PCI-DSS, SOC 2 and ISO 27001 controls.
• Profile and tune performance, resilience and cost across the platform.
• Lead design and code reviews, and contribute to architecture decisions.
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers and share knowledge across squads.
• Work with clients and stakeholders to turn business needs into technical solutions.
