Job description

An established environmental consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Flood Risk Consultant to join its growing technical team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced flood risk and hydrology professional looking to take greater ownership of projects, work directly with clients and contribute specialist technical expertise across a varied portfolio of development, infrastructure and environmental projects.

You will work closely with environmental, planning and engineering specialists, providing technical flood risk input from early-stage feasibility and assessment through planning and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and manage Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) for development and infrastructure projects.
  • Undertake hydrological assessments and interpret flood risk and catchment data.
  • Support and undertake hydraulic and flood modelling as required.
  • Assess fluvial, pluvial, coastal and groundwater flood risk depending on project requirements.
  • Provide technical input to EIARs, planning applications and environmental assessments.
  • Advise clients and multidisciplinary project teams on flood risk constraints, mitigation measures and development considerations.
  • Liaise with clients, planning authorities and relevant statutory bodies.
  • Review technical information, modelling outputs and third-party reports.
  • Manage project budgets, programmes and deadlines while maintaining high technical standards.
  • Support and mentor junior team members where appropriate.
  • Contribute to proposals, client relationships and the continued development of the flood risk service.
About You

You will ideally have:

  • Approximately 7-10 years' relevant experience in flood risk, hydrology, drainage, water/environmental engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong practical experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments.
  • Good knowledge of Irish flood risk and planning requirements.
  • Experience working with OPW flood data and guidance and relevant planning authorities.
  • A sound understanding of hydrological and hydraulic assessment methods.
  • Flood modelling experience or the ability to confidently interpret and review modelling outputs.
  • Experience within environmental, engineering or planning consultancy would be particularly relevant.
  • Strong technical report-writing and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage projects and communicate confidently with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • A relevant degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, hydrology, environmental science or a related discipline.
Why Consider This Role?

This position offers the opportunity to:

  • Take real ownership of projects rather than focusing on one narrow element of delivery.
  • Work across a diverse portfolio of environmental and development projects.
  • Combine technical flood risk expertise with client interaction and project management.
  • Work alongside experienced environmental and multidisciplinary specialists.
  • Have meaningful input into the continued development of the company's flood risk capability.
  • Progress professionally within an established and growing consultancy.

This role would suit an experienced consultant who enjoys the technical side of flood risk but is looking for greater autonomy, variety and influence in their next position.
