Job summary

Amazon Ireland Support Services Limited is recruiting a Senior Financial Accountant for the AWS EMEA Accounting team in Cork. The role owns monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities and supports statutory reporting.

You will drive process improvements, partner with Tax and FP&A, and contribute to complex financial statements. The position requires a finance/accounting degree, professional qualification, and strong English, with experience in month-end close,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field, or experience or equivalent experience in finance roles.
• Knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, or local GAAP frameworks.
• Speak, write, and read fluently in English
• Experience supporting month-end closing processes and contributing to financial reporting under established procedures
• Experience supporting the implementation of controls or contributing to audits over financial reporting environments
• Experience using financial models, KPIs, and data analysis to support business decisions

Responsibilities

• Ownership of AWS EMEA Corporate Accounting close processes across multiple entities, including journals, monthly results analysis and account reconciliations.
• Identify and drive process improvements and automation to reduce manual effort and move toward global standardization.
• Manage projects onboarding new entities and activities, ensuring controls before launch.
• Contribute to determining accounting treatment for new product launches and complex transactions.
• Partner with Tax, FP&A, and AWS Expansion teams on key issues.
• Represent EMEA Accounting on cross-functional projects.
• Develop knowledge of AWS business to prepare analytical reviews for internal and external reporting.
• Assist in preparation and review of complex statutory financial statements.
• Collaborate globally with teams, taking ownership and showing initiative.

Key job responsibilities

• Ownership of AWS EMEA Corporate Accounting close processes in multiple legal entities. This will include the preparation and review of journals, analytical review of monthly results and account reconciliations;
• Identifying and driving process improvements and automation initiatives to reduce manual effort and drive toward Global standardization;
• Managing projects entailing the on-boarding of new entities, new business offerings and activities, ensuring that processes and controls are in place prior to launch;
• Demonstrating strong technical accounting acumen to be able to conclude on accounting treatment of new product launches, projects and complex transactions;
• Business partnering with key stakeholders including Tax, FP&A, AWS Expansion teams;
• Representing EMEA Accounting on significant cross functional projects;
• Developing in depth knowledge of the AWS business and products to facilitate preparation of analytical review for internal and external reporting;
• Participating in preparation and review of the more complex statutory financial statements;
• Being a strong team player, who can operate globally, cross-functionally and at all levels of the organization, taking ownership and demonstrating self-initiative.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field, or experience or equivalent experience in finance roles
• Knowledge of one or multiple accounting frameworks (including US GAAP, IFRS, or local GAAP frameworks), with the ability to apply them in day-to-day financial activities
• Speak, write, and read fluently in English
• Experience supporting month-end closing processes and contributing to financial reporting under established procedures
• Experience supporting the implementation of controls or contributing to audits over financial reporting environments
• Experience using financial models, KPIs, and data analysis to support business decisions

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent)
• Knowledge of of financial reporting tools (Cognos, Redshift)
• Experience developing financial models in Excel with advanced functions (pivot tables, macros, VBA, Power Query)
• Experience with data analytics platforms (Power BI, Python, SQL, Tableau)
