Job summary

Mayo County Council is seeking a Senior Executive Architect in Mayo to lead design and delivery of major schemes across Housing Delivery, Regeneration, Public Realm and Urban Renewal. About the Role

Mayo County Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which permanent & fixed‑term contract vacancies for the position of Senior Executive Architect shall be drawn.

The successful candidate will join the Architects Section within the Council with responsibility for designing and managing construction projects and other ancillary works required for the successful development of the County, in the areas of, but not limited to Housing, Regeneration, Public Realm, Urban Renewal, Planning projects.

The role of the SEA within Mayo County Council is assigned to the delivery of Mayo Co Co’s extensive Housing Delivery Programme, however the SEA housing role in part, can extend to other capital projects associated with Regeneration & Urban Renewal, Public Realm and Planning projects. The successful candidate will be required to:

• Line manages a team of Executive Architects and Technologists within Mayo County Councils Architects Department, based in Castlebar and across Mayo County Councils 4 Municipal Districts.
• Liaise extensively with MCC’s internal departments in particular the Housing Department and Municipal Districts.
• Liaise extensively with Government Departments in particular the Department of Housing & Local Government and other government Departments as required.
• Report to MCC’s Senior Architect & Director of Services.

The Senior Executive Architect will require a full complement of project management technical skills, industry knowledge and expertise in delivering quality mixed‑use schemes. The successful candidate will be required to work on all stages of the projects from inception to completion. The Senior Executive Architect manage of a number of projects and oversee their progress along the way in a timely and cost-effective manner and will be responsible for identifying and managing risks, monitoring performance, scheduling, budgeting, organisation, co‑ordination, and implementation of the projects.

About You

The ideal candidate shall have the following Skills and Experience:

• Demonstrate the necessary leadership and experience to lead staff in the delivery of the demonstration projects and the management skills necessary to optimise the Department’s contribution to the achievement of the Council’s organisational goals and objectives.
• Have highly developed skills in using architectural design and urban design to promote excellence in the quality of the Council’s projects, to promote quality in the Council’s built environment and public places and to contribute to environmental and social sustainability.
• Be innovative and have a career record that demonstrates a high level of competence in the management of staff, customer orientation, conceptual and analytical thinking and initiative.
• Have an ability to work within and lead, multi-disciplined teams on various projects undertaken by the Department and demonstrate a strong track record and relevant management ethos and experience at a sufficiently high level.
• Have a strong, outward looking perspective and a track record of successful inter agency collaboration and co‑ordination.
• Have a good working knowledge or demonstrate an ability to acquire a good working knowledge of the legal, regulatory and governance framework within which the Council operates and adhere to corporate policies, protocols and procedures.
• Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Possess excellent organisational and IT skills.
• Demonstrate an ability to effectively manage budgets.
• Have a good working knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations, the implications for the organisation and the employee, and their application in the workplace in accordance with the Council’s approach to managing safety in the workplace.
• Have an understanding of the role and duties of line managers and an ability to work through the relevant structures to achieve management objectives in the workplace.
• Have a satisfactory knowledge of engineering works.
• Have satisfactory knowledge of surveying, levelling, and setting out of works.
• Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Be proficient in the use of computers in relation to document handling and production of reports.
• Have excellent IT skills particularly in graphic presentation and a comprehensive working knowledge of AUTOCAD and GIS skills.
• Have a working knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) including the use of REVIT.
• Experience in the preparation of designs and documentation for construction projects.
• Experience in the management and direction of staff.
