Job summary

Jobtailor are recruiting a Senior Structural Engineer to lead bridge projects in public transport schemes. You will supervise a small team, oversee design development, and deliver technically sound solutions that meet client requirements.

The role includes feasibility studies, detailed reports, risk assessment, and bid support. You will mentor junior staff and liaise with clients and suppliers. Some remote work is available for Ireland and the UK, with a Dublin base.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject.
• Chartered status or equivalent professional licence desirable.
• Experience in structural design processes and client requirements.

Responsibilities

Job description

Responsibilities

• Provide effective support and assistance to the Technical Director on Structures public transport schemes
• Lead bridge engineering projects from quotation through handover
• Lead a team and produce technically sound engineering solutions
• Perform design development and structural assessments
• Conduct Principal Inspections and Special Inspections
• Prepare feasibility and other technical reports
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation for scheme deliverables
• Oversee junior staff undertaking similar tasks and take responsibility for their actions
• Contribute to the professional development of junior staff
• Liaise with Client and supplier representatives and attend progress meetings
• Respond to queries
• Manage a small, locally based single-discipline technical team and its workload
• Contribute to bids and general work-winning activities
• Drive effective Health and Safety practices within the team
• Work on local projects and support initiatives in Ireland and the UK remotely

Requirements

• Developed experience and expertise within Structures field, probably gained in an Engineer role or equivalent
• Comprehensive knowledge of structural design processes and procedures
• Ability to produce or oversee technically sound engineering solutions complying with relevant technical standards and Client’s requirements
• Ownership of preparation and checking of deliverables
• Very good working knowledge of relevant software and analytical tools, e.g. LUSAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design
• Good commercial awareness
• Understanding of Safety, Health & Welfare and risk assessment
• Substantial experience managing and communicating hazards and risks on projects, including risk mitigation and transference
• Understanding of interface management
• Incorporated or Chartered status with Engineers Ireland, ICE or IStructE, or equivalent professional licence, desirable and potentially essential on particular contracts
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning
