Lead Senior Engineer – Bridges

Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior structural engineer to lead bridge projects in Ireland, with responsibility for design development, inspections, and team leadership. You will oversee delivery, coordinate with clients, and drive safety and quality across schemes.

Candidates should have extensive experience in structures, knowledge of LUSAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design, and be capable of mentoring junior staff while managing risks and interfaces across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant subject.
• Chartered status with Engineers Ireland, ICE or IStructE is desirable on certain contracts.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to the Technical Director on public transport structures schemes.
• Lead bridge engineering projects from quotation through handover.
• Lead a team and produce technically sound engineering solutions.
• Undertake design development, structural assessments, Principal Inspections and Special Inspections.
• Prepare feasibility and other technical reports.
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and scheme documentation.
• Oversee junior staff undertaking similar tasks and mentor them.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives and attend progress meetings.
• Manage a small locally based single-discipline technical team and its workload.
• Contribute to bids and work-winning activities.
• Drive Health and Safety practices within the team.
• Work on local projects and support initiatives in Ireland and the UK remotely.

Job description

Requirements

• Developed experience and expertise within the Structures field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent
• Comprehensive knowledge of structural design processes and procedures
• Ability to produce or oversee technically sound engineering solutions complying with relevant technical standards and Client's requirements
• Ownership of preparation and checking of deliverables
• Very good working knowledge of relevant software and analytical tools, e.g. LUSAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design
• Good commercial awareness
• Understanding of Safety, Health & Welfare and risk assessment
• Substantial experience managing and communicating hazards and risks on projects
• Understanding of interface management
• Incorporated or Chartered status with Engineers Ireland, ICE or IStructE, or equivalent professional licence, desirable and potentially essential on particular contracts
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning
