Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Structural Engineer to play a critical role in the Consulting Structures team. You will support senior staff on a range of bridge engineering projects, from design development to delivery.

You will mentor junior engineers, prepare designs, calculations, and documentation, and ensure quality, cost, and programme criteria are met.

Qualifications

Experience in Structures field, likely in an Assistant Engineer role or equivalent.
Comprehensive knowledge of structural design processes and procedures.
Ability to produce or oversee sound engineering solutions complying with technical standards and client requirements.
Strong knowledge of software/tools such as LUSAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.
Good understanding of safety, health & welfare and risk assessment.
Experience in managing and communicating hazards and risks on projects with mitigation.
Evidence of working towards Incorporated or Chartered status with Engineers Ireland, ICE or IStructE, or equivalent.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning.

Responsibilities

Overview

Our Structural Engineers play an important part within the Consulting Structures team. As a Structural Engineer, you will provide effective support and assistance to your Senior Engineer on a variety of Structures public transport schemes, whilst supporting and mentoring junior engineers and technicians. You will take ownership and support the management and technical delivery of bridge engineering projects from start to finish, including design development, structural assessments, principal inspections/special inspections, feasibility and other technical reports. You will prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme. You will oversee the actions of more junior staff and take responsibility for their actions. You will liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings, and respond to queries. You will drive effective health and safety practices within the team.

Requirements

Developed experience and expertise within Structures field, probably gained in an Assistant Engineer role or equivalent.
Comprehensive knowledge of structural design processes and procedures.
An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client’s requirements.
Very good working knowledge of relevant software and similar analytical tools (e.g. LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
Good understanding of safety, health & welfare and risk assessment.
Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensuring appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.
Evidence of working towards Incorporated or Chartered status with Engineers Ireland, ICE or IStructE, or an equivalent professional licence.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning.
