The Senior Electrical Engineering Lead will serve as JOD's senior electrical engineering authority for utility-scale wind, solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and associated HV/MV electrical infrastructure. The role combines technical leadership, project management and Owner's Engineer responsibilities, providing independent technical assurance throughout project development, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.

The Vacancy

The Senior Electrical Engineering Lead will serve as JOD's senior electrical engineering authority for utility-scale wind, solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and associated HV/MV electrical infrastructure. The role combines technical leadership, project management and Owner's Engineer responsibilities, providing independent technical assurance throughout project development, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.

This is a full time, permanent position, office based with travel to project sites throughout Ireland.

The successful candidate will establish and lead JOD's in-house electrical engineering capability, provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams, act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) with ESB Networks, EirGrid and other key electrical stakeholders where required, and support clients in delivering safe, efficient and compliant renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as JOD's senior electrical technical lead, providing technical governance and assurance across renewable energy projects.
  • Lead the electrical delivery of wind, solar PV and BESS projects throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage project scope, programme, budget, risk and quality for electrical work packages.
  • Provide technical leadership on HV/MV substations, grid connections, transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, SCADA, inverters and balance of plant infrastructure.
  • Provide guidance to Planning and Environmental teams on substations and grid connection strategies.
  • Provide independent technical assurance and review of electrical designs, calculations, specifications and contractor submissions while maintaining appropriate separation from contractor design responsibility.
  • Establish and continuously improve JOD's internal electrical engineering standards, QA procedures, templates and technical governance arrangements.
  • Coordinate civil, structural, mechanical, environmental and SCADA disciplines to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Support Owner's Engineer, Employer's Representative and Client Representative commissions.
  • Lead technical input into procurement strategies, tender documentation, tender evaluations and contractor appointments.
  • Act as the electrical Single Point of Contact (SPOC), where required, with ESB Networks, EirGrid, ICPs, OEMs, EPC contractors and other stakeholders.


Person Specification

Essential -

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in HV/MV electrical engineering with significant experience delivering renewable energy, power generation, transmission, distribution or other major electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams within a Developer, Owner's Engineer, Employer's Representative, consultancy or client-side environment.
  • Strong knowledge of grid connections, protection systems and power system studies.
  • Experience supporting Owner's Engineer, Employer's Representative or Client Representative commissions.
  • Practical experience of commissioning, energisation and operational handover of HV/MV infrastructure.


Desirable -

  • Chartered Engineer (Engineers Ireland or equivalent).
  • PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent project management qualification.
  • ACEI PSDP Course (or equivalent).
  • Understanding of Client, PSDP and PSCS duties under Irish regulations.
  • Experience acting as the electrical SPOC with ESB Networks and EirGrid.
