Job summary

Jennings O’Donovan is looking for an experienced PSDP Project Design Professional to join our team in Sligo. The full-time role is based on a hybrid model from our Sligo office, with involvement in landmark Irish infrastructure projects within the renewable energy sector.

The candidate should have 10+ years in safety (design/construction), a relevant professional qualification, and strong knowledge of safety in design and ISO standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead PSDP design safety coordination and provide design safety advice.
  • Develop and maintain hazard identification registers.
  • Coordinate with PSCS, designers and clients to ensure compliance with safety in design requirements.
  • Prepare and oversee hazard control measures and risk assessments.
  • Lead design safety reviews and ensure proper documentation and QA procedures.

We are seeking an experienced PSDP Project Design Professional to join our team. This is full time permanent role working on a hybrid basis from our office in Sligo. This role is a vital opportunity to progress in the Renewable Energy Sector and be involved in landmark infrastructural projects across Ireland, supporting our drive toward a more sustainable and resilient environment.

Key Responsibilities And Duties
  • Project Safety & Health Management (Design)
  • Perform the Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP) / Principal Designer role on projects.
  • Provide design safety advice and support to engineering design disciplines and project teams.
  • Support project teams in achieving compliance with applicable statutory requirements for occupational health and safety in design.
  • Identify and assess design-related hazards from technical, organisational, planning, and time-related perspectives.
  • Prepare and maintain hazard identification registers.
  • Collaborate with design teams to eliminate or reduce risks.
  • Prepare Preliminary Safety and Health Plans where required.
  • Communicate residual risks and control measures to the PSCS and Designers for inclusion in the Construction Stage Safety and Health Plan.
  • Coordinate and facilitate cooperation among designers.
  • Chair and attend site meetings and liaise with Clients, PSCS/Contractors, Designers, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Lead or chair design safety-related reviews, EHS, technical, regulatory, and process safety reviews as competent.
  • Determine and track essential design safety-related reviews and risk assessments, ensuring they are adequately planned and sequenced in project schedules.
  • Provide Temporary Works coordination and third-party designer management.
  • Manage the compilation of Safety Files and coordinate with the PSCS and construction management teams.
  • Maintain knowledge of current technology, regulatory, and industry standards for design safety.
  • Advise clients and design teams on their duties under the SHWW (Construction) Regulations.
  • Review and enhance internal PSDP procedures in line with legislation and ISO standards.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation in line with QA procedures.
  • Design Safety Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure all work is performed in strict compliance with JOD’s Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Actively participate in design safety and quality-related continuous improvement projects.
  • Deliver design safety-related training to staff and colleagues.
Key Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years of safety (design/construction) or project experience.
  • Recognised relevant professional qualification (Engineering, Architecture, Science, or Construction preferred).
  • Demonstrated strong working knowledge and practical application of safety in design legislation, along with familiarity with ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards in an engineering/construction environment.
  • Excellent communication, people skills, and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative and independently.
  • Strong multitasking and project management abilities.
  • Excellent report-writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Adobe).
  • Fluent English.
  • Excellent time management and ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
  • Full clean driver's license and flexible approach to travel, as the role will require attendance at sites and project locations across Ireland.
  • Advantageous: Member of a recognised Engineering, Architectural, or Occupational H&S professional body / Chartered Status.
