Job summary

Jones Engineering in Cork is seeking a Renewables Transmission & Distribution Project Manager to lead project delivery in our Renewables division. You will coordinate the project team and manage day‑to‑day activities to hit milestones.

Responsibilities include controlling cost, schedule, and quality; overseeing contractors; ensuring safety compliance; and delivering electrical and civil works from pre‑construction to handover.

Qualifications

• Must hold a degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering, Renewable Energy, or Construction Management.
• 3–5 years' site‑based construction experience in renewables projects (wind/solar).
• Experience with high voltage substations (38kV/110kV/220kV) and MV testing is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assume full accountability for the financial performance and overall management of assigned projects.
• Plan, control and manage delivery within cost, timescales and quality.
• Lead and coordinate project teams including subcontractors.
• Ensure compliance with codes, regulations and health & safety standards.
• Carry out site inspections to verify specifications and safety.
• Coordinate external consultants.
• Identify and resolve technical challenges during construction with timely solutions.
• Provide clear reporting to the Renewables / T&D Division Operations Manager, Contracts Manager and Director.
• Deliver electrical and civil projects from pre-construction through commissioning and handover.
• Maintain commercial and contractual oversight, including project P&L.
• Develop cross-functional teams to support project success.

Job Description

As a Transmission & Distribution Project Manager in the Renewables division, you will play a pivotal role in project implementation and execution. You will coordinate the project team and management of the project on a day-to-day basis to ensure key project milestones are achieved and the successful delivery of the project.

Your Responsibilities will include:

• Assume full accountability for the financial performance and overall management of assigned projects.
• Planning, controlling and managing the delivery of your project(s) utilising the necessary resource and skills, within the agreed parameters of cost, timescales and quality.
• Lead, coordinate, and manage project teams, including direct labour and subcontractors, ensuring efficient delivery.
• Ensure full compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and health & safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.
• Carry out regular site inspections to verify adherence to specifications, safety procedures, and quality benchmarks.
• Manage and coordinate external consultants.
• Identify and resolve technical challenges during construction, implementing effective and timely solutions.
• Provide clear and consistent reporting to the Renewables / T&D Division Operations Manager, Contracts Manager and Director.
• Deliver Electrical & Civil projects from pre-construction through to commissioning and handover, ensuring completion on time and within budget.
• Maintain strong commercial and contractual oversight, including a solid understanding of project P&L.
• Effectively manage and develop cross-functional teams to support project success.
  
  

Skills And Requirements

To excel in this role, you should possess the following skills and qualifications:

• A degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering, Renewable Energy or Construction Management is essential.
• Proven experience in the construction and delivery of renewable energy projects, including wind and solar developments. This must include onsite involvement with 38kV, 110kV, and 220kV medium-voltage substations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid connections and MV testing and commissioning.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a similar site-based construction role is essential.
• Excellent delegation and organisational skills.
• Ability to lead and mentor a cross-functional team essential.
• Ability to work and collaborate with the wider project team essential.
• Electrical trade background would be advantageous.
• Strong civil engineering knowledge base.
• Strong communications skills, both written and oral required.
