As part of the growing Engineering Team here at TLI Group we are currently recruiting for a Senior Substation Electrical Engineer to join the team. The successful candidate will be based in our Dublin office (with flexibility to work from one of the other TLI office locations). Travel to and from site may occasionally be required, but this will be predominantly an office-based position.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, the successful candidate will be taking on an engineering and design role on major Power, Renewable & Substation projects. You will be responsible for identifying, managing, and coordinating all electrical design requirements and deliverables on substation projects. You will be involved in technical decision making. You will provide mentoring, support, and technical development to team members. You will ensure that all design outputs meet the required technical, quality and safety standards.
This role can be based in our Dublin, Limerick, Cork or Tralee offices.
Main Responsibilities:
- Function as a Senior Substation Electrical Engineer within TLI Groups Engineering Team
- Detailed review and familiarisation of all project employers requirements, specifications, and drawings.
- Ownership of all elements of electrical substation design including primary design, secondary design, design calculations, procurement specifications, etc.
- Review & approve team submissions in advance of issue, identifying value engineering opportunities where possible.
- Ensure designs are completed within the agreed programme.
- Identify scope changes and variations and advise the project team.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Support team members in all projects as assigned throughout the lifetime of each contract.
- Take ownership & actively manage substation design projects.
- Promote a safety culture and safe working environment.
- Identify design risks and propose mitigation techniques.
- Assist tendering department as required with bid submissions.
- Business Development & client liaison where required.
- Manage substation design projects from feasibility stage through to construction and handover to client.
- Contribute effectively as part of a multidisciplinary design team taking responsibility for all aspects of design outputs.
- Support the operations team in terms of technical advice & provide design solutions where required.
- Review & approve construction work packs ahead of commencement of on-site work.
- Provide mentoring for other team members to help develop their understanding of electrical design processes through on the job learning, shadowing, training courses, providing feedback, etc.
- Engage with processes as required under Engineers Ireland Accredited Employers standard (e.g. mentoring, knowledge sharing, CPD identification for team members etc)
- Identify & follow up on potential project opportunities as they arise.
- Keep up to date on innovative technologies, build techniques and design innovations to drive improvements in cost, quality, and timescales.
Role Requirements:
Qualifications and experience:
- Honours Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years industry experience
Knowledge:
- Proficient use and knowledge of software such as AutoCAD, ePlan, MS Office, (experience with design studies and cable design software would be an advantage)
- Knowledge of the substation, utilities, and renewables sector.
- Familiarity with current ESB/Eirgrid specifications & design requirements would be an advantage.
