Job summary

Merck is seeking a Senior EHS Specialist for our Dundalk vaccines manufacturing site in Ireland. You will lead site-wide Environmental, Health & Safety programmes, partnering with site leadership to embed a strong safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance across a complex manufacturing environment.

You will develop procedures, provide technical guidance, conduct risk assessments, manage changes, and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Degree holder in Environmental Science or related field with significant EHS experience in pharma/regulated manufacturing.
• Experience developing and implementing site-wide EHS programmes, policies, and compliance initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
• Experience engaging with environmental regulators and supporting inspections or permit management activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety programmes across the site.
• Partner with site leadership and operational teams to embed a strong culture of safety, compliance, and risk awareness.
• Develop and implement EHS procedures, standards, training programmes, and best practices.
• Provide technical guidance and support on environmental, health, safety, and compliance matters.
• Lead and support EHS risk assessments, investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support interactions with regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
• Drive programmes related to biosafety, environmental management, industrial hygiene, and Process Safety occupational health.
• Support management of change activities, ensuring EHS risks are identified and effectively controlled.
• Monitor EHS performance, identify trends, and develop improvement plans to reduce risk and strengthen compliance.
• Deliver training and coaching to employees, contractors, and site leadership teams.
• Act as a key EHS representative across site projects, operational activities, and cross-functional initiatives.
