Job summary

Purcell Construction seeks an experienced Senior Safety Officer to join our EHS team and support the delivery of our growing portfolio of construction projects.

You will work closely with site management, subcontractors and the wider EHS function to maintain and continuously improve health, safety and environmental standards, promoting a positive EHS culture across projects. The role requires leadership in RAMS, PSCS and permit-to-work processes with regular reporting.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Experience in a construction safety role, preferably with a Main Contractor.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation and PSCS requirements.
  • Experience reviewing RAMS, managing permit systems and conducting site inspections and incident investigations.
  • The confidence to engage with Site Managers, Project Managers, subcontractors and senior management on EHS matters.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with Purcell's ISO-certified EHS Management Systems across project sites.
  • Build strong relationships with site management teams, subcontractors and other stakeholders to promote high EHS standards at all levels.
  • Act as a positive influencer of safety behaviours and support the implementation of behavioural-based safety initiatives.
  • Support the planning, implementation and measurement of project EHS action plans.
  • Assist with project pre-planning and the preparation of associated EHS documentation.
  • Provide leadership and day-to-day guidance to junior members of the EHS team.
  • Support site management teams with risk management and the resolution of day-to-day EHS matters.
  • Ensure PSCS responsibilities are managed in accordance with relevant legislation and company procedures.
  • Manage site inductions and undertake EHS reviews of RAMS and permit to work requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and cross-project inspections, identifying and following through on corrective actions.
  • Support incident investigations, lessons-learned exercises and the analysis of safety performance and observation data.
  • Monitor subcontractor EHS performance and support continuous improvement across the supply chain.
  • Ensure company environmental management processes are effectively implemented on site.
  • Provide regular EHS reporting and contribute to the ongoing improvement of safety standards across the business.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties required in support of company objectives.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction safety professional to take a senior role within project teams, working closely with site management, subcontractors and the wider EHS function to maintain and continuously improve health, safety and environmental standards.


The Role

As Senior Safety Officer, you will play a key role in promoting a positive EHS culture across our projects, providing practical support and leadership to site teams while ensuring compliance with company procedures, legislation and industry best practice.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support incident investigations, lessons-learned exercises and the analysis of safety performance and observation data.

  • Monitor subcontractor EHS performance and support continuous improvement across the supply chain.

  • Ensure company environmental management processes are effectively implemented on site.

  • Provide regular EHS reporting and contribute to the ongoing improvement of safety standards across the business.

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties required in support of company objectives.


The Candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced construction safety professional with a strong understanding of site operations and the ability to positively influence safety behaviours across project teams.


You will ideally have:



  • A relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.

  • Strong experience in a Health & Safety role within the construction industry, ideally with a Main Contractor.

  • A strong working knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation and PSCS requirements.

  • Experience reviewing RAMS, managing permit systems and conducting site inspections and incident investigations.

  • The confidence to engage with Site Managers, Project Managers, subcontractors and senior management on EHS matters.

  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior EHS personnel.

  • A proactive, practical approach with a strong commitment to maintaining high safety standards.
