Job summary

Stewart Construction is hiring a Senior EHS Officer to join our team on major Ireland projects. The role focuses on promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental standards, and supporting site teams across large-scale commercial, industrial, educational and healthcare builds.

The successful candidate will work closely with the EHS Manager, lead HRAs, RAMS reviews and site EHS plan development, and coordinate training and audits to maintain

Qualifications

  • Degree/diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years in a similar EHS role within construction.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish health & safety legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the EHS Manager to ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Work with the Project Construction Team to implement IMS across projects.
  • Establish EHS documentation, RAMS, SOPs and training for site teams.
  • Lead incident reporting, investigations and root-cause analysis.
  • Provide expert EHS guidance to site management and liaise with regulators and clients.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and promote a strong safety culture on site.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits and drive continuous improvement.

Job description

Stewart Construction, one of Ireland’s leading main contractors with over 120 years of experience, is currently seeking an experienced Senior EHS Officer to join our growing team.

We deliver high-quality commercial, industrial, educational and healthcare projects across Ireland and pride ourselves on our collaborative culture and commitment to excellence.

This role offers the opportunity to work within an established site team on large-scale construction projects, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture on site, ensuring all works are carried out in compliance with health, safety and environmental standards and in line with company and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the EHS Manager in achieving company objectives, ensuring full compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental and workplace legislation
  • Work closely with the Project Construction Team to implement and maintain the Integrated Management System (IMS) across all project activities
  • Ensure each site is fully established with EHS Kick off meetings, comprehensive Site-Specific Construction EHS Plan and all required supporting documentation etc.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in Stewart’s High-Risk Activities (HRAs), ensuring risks are effectively identified, assessed, and controlled
  • Assist in the preparation and review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Support the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and deliver clear training and communication to site teams
  • Lead incident reporting and investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented and shared
  • Promote and champion a strong, positive health and safety culture across all project sites
  • Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with company EHS policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits, reporting findings and driving continuous improvement
  • Provide expert advice and support to site management teams on all EHS matters
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, clients, and external auditors as required
  • Deliver toolbox talks and contribute to ongoing EHS training and awareness initiatives
  • Support the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the company’s EHS management systems
  • Mentor and support junior EHS team members where required
Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a similar EHS role within the construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of Irish health & safety legislation and regulations
  • Previous experience in a senior or lead EHS role
  • Experience working on large-scale commercial construction projects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence and engage with site teams and senior management
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and reporting systems
