Job summary

MMD Construction in Cork is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor to join our team. Reporting to the EHS Manager, you will guide site teams and oversee multiple sites to improve safety, quality and environmental management in line with ISO standards.

You will lead EHS training, develop programmes, and ensure compliance with Irish legislation while fostering a proactive safety culture across projects.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Health and Safety or SHWW diploma.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar EHS role within construction.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish construction legislation and best practice.
  • Safe Pass and Manual Handling certificates.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a solution-focused mindset.
  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confident in delivering training and engaging with teams at all levels.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • High attention to detail with leadership and administrative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of EHS policies and ISO-aligned systems.
  • Guide site/project teams on safety and environmental matters with compliance.
  • Lead and develop the EHS Graduate Programme.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, audits, and safety inspections.
  • Prepare and review Construction Management Plans and Pre-Construction Safety plans.
  • Assess risk assessments and method statements; suggest improvements.
  • Promote proactive safety culture through training and onboarding.
  • Monitor legislative updates for ongoing compliance.
  • Contribute to EHS performance indicators and reporting.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain documentation in line with ISO Management System.
  • Represent MMD Construction at meetings.
  • Carry out other HSE duties as assigned.

MMD Construction is seeking to recruit an experienced and driven Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor to join our team in Cork. Reporting directly to the EHS Manager, the successful candidate will provide expert guidance, support, and oversight to Project and Site Managers across multiple sites. The role focuses on the implementation and continuous improvement of our safety, quality, and environmental management systems, in line with ISO standards and legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of company-wide EHS policies and continuously improve systems in line with ISO standards.
  • Guide and advise site and project teams on daily safety and environmental matters, ensuring full compliance with legislation.
  • Lead and develop MMD’s EHS Graduate Programme in line with corporate objectives.
  • Deliver regular toolbox talks, site inductions, audits, and safety inspections.
  • Prepare and review Construction Management Plans, contract award documentation, and Pre-Construction Health & Safety plans.
  • Assess and advise on risk assessments and method statements, recommending improvements to reduce risk.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and engage staff through training, onboarding, and regular safety briefings.
  • Monitor legislative updates to ensure internal practices remain compliant and up to date.
  • Contribute to the delivery of key EHS performance indicators and reporting to management.
  • Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and preventative action plans.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurately maintained in line with the ISO Management System.
  • Represent MMD Construction at site and project meetings as required.
  • Carry out other HSE-related duties as assigned by the EHS Manager or Senior Management.
Qualifications & Experience
  • BSc in Health and Safety or Higher Diploma/Diploma in Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (SHWW).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar EHS role within the construction industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of Irish construction legislation and best practice.
  • Safe Pass and Manual Handling certificates required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a solution-focused mindset.
