SimoTech is seeking a Senior DeltaV Automation Engineer to join our team at our headquarters in Cork. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting a major pharmaceutical client, contributing to a high-impact, long-term automation programme.
The ideal candidate will bring 8+ years of experience delivering critical automation solutions, with a strong focus on DeltaV systems. Migration projects from DeltaV Operate to DeltaV Live would be a distinct advantage. This position requires deep technical expertise in Emerson DeltaV, along with proven experience working closely with client stakeholders within complex, highly regulated (GxP) environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of a DeltaV Operate to Live migration strategy, primarily from a technical perspective, but also contributing to validation strategy, downtime assessment, resource planning, training and communication, risk mitigation and scheduling.
- Provide technical leadership for the migration from DeltaV Operate to DeltaV Live across a large, complex manufacturing environment
- Drive standardisation and automated development within the migration process with focus on lean approach to repetitive tasks
- Assess existing site systems and global library content, perform gap analysis, accurately define complexity and scale, and map out a migration plan
- Design intuitive, standardised graphics aligned to ISA-101 and best practice principles
- Lead the configuration of DeltaV Live animated elements, faceplates and graphics
- Plan and execute phased migration activities, ensuring minimal operational disruption
- Support testing (FAT/SAT), troubleshooting, and system validation throughout the migration lifecycle
- Devise and implement migration plan in consultation with end users to ensure minimal disruption to operations, considering impact of change to usability of the DeltaV environment
- Set up DeltaV environment to utilise both DeltaV Operate and DeltaV Live in parallel for duration of migration period, leading to eventual decommissioning of DeltaV Operate
- Manage change under the site Quality Management System, ensuring that site process is followed and interaction with all relevant site functions is planned and controlled
- Collaborate with stakeholders, provide user training, and drive continuous improvement of HMI usability and standards
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or the Life Sciences.
- 8+ year DeltaV automation engineering experience, preferably in the life sciences industry.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Emerson DeltaV, including configuration of control modules, equipment modules, graphics, and alarm management.
- Strong HMI/graphic design expertise with the ability to develop high-performance, user-centric DeltaV Live displays aligned to ISA-101 principles.
- Experience in scripting within graphics environment, particularly with Visual Basic and HTML
- Demonstrated experience working in complex, regulated environments (e.g., pharma, biotech, or similar), with an understanding of GMP/GAMP requirements.
- Solid understanding of DeltaV system architecture, integration, and lifecycle project delivery (design through to commissioning).
- Strong problem-solving skills with experience in troubleshooting system, graphics, and migration-related issues.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and support end-user training and adoption.
