Job summary

Medtronic plc is seeking a Senior Controls Manufacturing Engineer to design, develop, and integrate complex electrical systems used in manufacturing and testing of Cardiac Ablation Solutions products.

You will lead challenging projects, mentor team members, and collaborate with mechanical, software, QA, and manufacturing teams to drive projects from concept through production while upholding regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • NFQ Level 8 Degree in Engineering or Science is required with relevant electrical design experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of electrical design experience (or 2 years with advanced degree).
  • Experience in medical devices or highly regulated industries is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, development, and integration of electrical systems for manufacturing equipment.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers within a cross-functional team.
  • Drive projects from concept through production while ensuring regulatory compliance.

The Cardiac Ablations Solutions Unit develops life-restoring therapies and healthcare solutions that span the care continuum; integrating technologies and applying clinical and economic evidence to increase patient access, improve efficiency of procedures and deliver successful patient outcomes.

A Day in The Life Of:
  • Works as part of a cross functional Engineering Manufacturing Team to maintain and improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Lead teams in the application of formal, structured problem-solving initiatives to identify the root cause of equipment performance issues.
  • Lead or contribute to the design, development, and testing of electrical systems and circuits to support the manufacturing and testing for medical devices, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
  • Lead or contribute to technical project planning, establish timelines, define deliverables, and proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Develop detailed specifications, schematics, and PCB layouts, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to meet design and performance requirements.
  • Perform system-level integration of hardware, firmware, and software components.
  • Conduct risk assessments and root cause investigations for electrical issues, implementing robust corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage product changes and related change control activities, ensuring design documentation (e.g., BOMs, specifications, drawings) is updated and maintained accurately.
  • Support verification and validation activities to ensure the safety, compliance, and efficacy of manufacturing equipment.
  • Design, develop, and qualify functional and safety test systems at both the product and PCB levels.
  • Investigate and analyse field-returned products, conducting engineering analyses and testing to determine root causes of failures.
  • Support and potentially own CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) processes and manage issue escalations to resolution.
  • Provide troubleshooting and problem-solving support to the wider manufacturing team and vendors aiming to increase yields, maintain process capabilities, and improve cost-efficiency.
  • Support internal and external regulatory compliance audits, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing engineering environment.
  • Stay current with advancements in electrical engineering, emerging technologies, and industry best practices.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Minimum NFQ Level 8 Degree in Engineering / Science or a related discipline preferred with a minimum of 4 years of electrical design experience or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years electrical design experience
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in medical device or highly regulated industries
  • Experience with analog, digital, high voltage and a deep understanding of AB, Cognex, Keyence.
  • Solid understanding of CE & EMC design and test principles
  • Experience with Siemens, Beckhoff, Trio Motion Perfect, Kuka, Epson, UR Robots, Visual Studio, PackML preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with building control boxs and panels, prototyping, testing, and debugging electromechanical assemblies
  • Experience in developing hardware test systems for production testing
