Job summary

Medtronic in Ireland is seeking a Senior Reliability Engineer to lead reliability and risk management activities across product quality, complaint investigations, design verification, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with 4+ years of engineering or quality experience, or advanced degree with 2+ years.
  • Experience conducting technical investigations, product analysis, or reliability‑related activities.
  • Experience maintaining technical documentation in a regulated environment.

  • Lead reliability engineering activities related to product performance issues, manufacturing events, and field complaints.
  • Conduct and support complaint investigations, including product analysis and documentation of findings.
  • Develop design verification strategies, test method development, sample size justification, and planning.

Our Purpose

The Electrophysiology Therapies (EPT) operating unit develops and manufactures technologies that support the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. This role is part of the reliability engineering function, supporting product performance investigations, risk management activities, design verification, and product analysis of returned devices to help drive product quality and patient safety.

As a Senior Reliability Engineer, you will lead reliability and risk management activities that support product quality, complaint investigations, design verification, and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate across quality, manufacturing, regulatory, and engineering teams to evaluate product performance, investigate field issues, and support data-driven decisions that impact patients and healthcare providers.

A Day in The Life Of:
  • Lead reliability engineering activities related to product performance issues, manufacturing events, and field complaints.
  • Conduct and support complaint investigations, including product analysis, technical assessments, and documentation of findings.
  • Develop design verification strategies, including test method development, sample size justification, and product acquisition planning.
  • Lead test method validation activities using appropriate statistical techniques and documented methodologies.
  • Own and maintain risk management documentation, including Product Hazard Analyses, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEA), Risk Management Reports, and related assessments.
  • Perform risk evaluations associated with design changes, manufacturing issues, complaint trends, and corrective action activities.
  • Drive responses to regulatory inquiries, health risk assessments, issue evaluations, and other risk-based investigations.
  • Partner with manufacturing sites and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure timely communication, issue resolution, and execution of reliability strategies
Key Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or a related field and a minimum of 4 years experience; or an advanced degree in Engineering, Science or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of engineering or quality experience.
  • Experience conducting technical investigations, product analysis, or reliability‑related engineering activities.
  • Experience creating, reviewing, or maintaining technical documentation within a regulated environment.
  • Ability to analyse technical data, assess risk, and support evidence‑based decision making.
  • Experience working collaboratively across cross‑functional teams to resolve technical issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience within the medical device industry.
  • Knowledge of United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 21 CFR Part 820 and European Union Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR 2017/745).
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and IEC 60601 standards.
  • Experience with design verification, test method development, and test method validation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
