Job summary

Emerald Locums is seeking an experienced Senior Cardiac Physiologist for a Kilkenny hospital. You will lead ECG and stress tests, interpret results, and support echocardiography and catheterisation activities.

The role requires delivering patient‑centred care and supervising junior staff within a busy Cardiology Department. The position offers a fixed‑term 11‑month contract, 35 hours per week, and a competitive salary with pension benefits.

Qualifications

• ASCT or equivalent professional credential is desirable.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Experience in cardiac physiology and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret ECGs and stress testing.
• Carry out Holter monitoring and analysis.
• Monitor blood pressure and events; manage pacemaker and ICD follow‑ups.
• Perform echocardiography and cardiac catheterisation as needed.
• Maintain accurate reports and support junior staff.
• Contribute to service development within the Cardiology Department.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret ECGs
• Carry out stress testing
• Holter monitoring and analysis
• Blood pressure monitoring and analysis
• Event monitoring and analysis
• Pacemaker implantation and follow-up
• ICD implantation and follow-up
• Echocardiography
• Cardiac catheterisation
• Electrophysiology
• Maintain accurate clinical reports and documentation
• Participate in patient preparation, care and reassurance
• Support the day-to-day running of the Cardiology Department when required
• Assist with the teaching, training and supervision of junior and new staff
• Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the Cardiology service

Requirements

• Applicants should possess ASCT
• Diploma in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement from a College of Technology or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience at Basic Grade Cardiac Physiologist/Technician level
• Experience in echocardiography and/or cardiac catheterisation
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to delivering a high-quality patient-focused service
