Job summary

EirGrid is at the heart of Ireland’s electricity transition. We are seeking a Senior Balancing Analyst/Engineer to support balancing market integration and cross-border reforms, delivering robust technical and market analyses across the operational, regulatory and commercial domains.

You will work with internal and external stakeholders to develop requirements, manage testing, and contribute to delivery planning, ensuring secure, reliable and sustainable energy systems for Ireland.

Qualifications

• Third level qualification in science, engineering, business, IT or other relevant discipline, with at least 4 years’ post-qualification experience.
• Strong understanding of wholesale electricity markets, including SEM and relevant European market arrangements.
• Understanding of balancing markets, interconnector operation, HVDC technology and cross-border market processes.
• Ability to analyse complex technical, operational and market issues and translate them into practical recommendations.
• Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Ability to operate effectively in complex and evolving environments with competing priorities and ambiguity.
• Experience supporting the integration of commercial, technical or regulatory requirements into delivery plans.
• Collaborative, engaging and motivated, with a strong commitment to delivering on EirGrid’s strategy.

Responsibilities

• Support the analysis of balancing market impacts arising from mFRR products, European market reforms and cross-border balancing arrangements.
• Conduct technical and market analysis to assess the impacts of regulatory, market and cross-border balancing changes.
• Monitor European balancing market developments and assess implications for EirGrid’s operations and market arrangements.
• Support the development and validation of technical requirements associated with balancing market integration.
• Support the delivery of MARI and other balancing market integration programmes through planning, requirements management and cross-functional coordination.
• Maintain project documentation, issue logs, risk registers and action trackers.
• Support testing activities, analyse results and assist in resolving issues identified during development and implementation phases
• Contribute to operational readiness activities, implementation planning and contingency assessment.
• Prepare reports, presentations, briefing materials and analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, and maintain awareness of industry developments, regulatory changes and best practices.
