Job summary

BDO Ireland’s Financial Services Audit team in Dublin is expanding. You will deliver high-quality audit engagements for domestic and international FS clients, including funds, asset managers, SPVs and lending institutions, and take ownership of engagements across the portfolio.

Lead onsite fieldwork, assign work to junior staff, design risk-based procedures, prepare documentation, and coach junior team members. Collaborate with managers and partners to drive audit quality and client service.

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant ACA/ACCA with strong professional services track record.
  • 3–5 years external audit experience.
  • Exposure to financial services clients: funds, asset management, SPVs, leasing, regulated entities.
  • Solid ISA (Ireland) and Irish audit regulatory understanding; IFRS and Irish GAAP knowledge.
  • Experience with controls testing, risk-based audits, and high-quality documentation.

Job description

  • Join BDO Ireland’s growing Financial Services Audit team in Dublin
  • Deliver high-quality audit engagements for domestic and international financial services clients
  • Work with investment funds, asset management firms, lending institutions, and other regulated entities
  • Develop and maintain client relationships
  • Work closely with experienced managers and partners on complex audit assignments
  • Take ownership of client engagements
  • Lead onsite/fieldwork and allocate and delegate work to junior team members
  • Design and execute risk-based audit procedures, including controls testing
  • Prepare high-quality audit documentation and resolve review notes
  • Coach and develop junior staff through feedback, review notes, and on-the-job training
  • Support the continued growth of BDO’s Financial Services Audit practice
  • Build technical and leadership skills for career progression
Requirements
  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA or equivalent), with a strong track record in a professional services environment
  • 3–5 years’ external audit experience
  • Demonstrable exposure to Financial Services clients, including funds, management companies, SPVs, leasing, or related regulated entities
  • Strong working knowledge of ISA (Ireland) and the Irish audit regulatory environment, including quality management expectations
  • Robust financial reporting capability across IFRS and Irish GAAP (FRS 102/101)
  • Practical experience applying standards relating to financial instruments, fair value, consolidation, investment entities, and SPVs
  • Experience auditing financial services risk areas, including valuation, existence/ownership of investments, management fee calculations, NAV-related processes, revenue recognition, and service organisation/outsourcing controls
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and ability to design and execute effective audit procedures
  • Experience with controls testing and a risk-based audit approach
  • High standard of audit documentation and ability to deliver files meeting internal and external review standards
  • Strong client service ethos and ability to build trusted relationships
  • Effective communication of clear, concise findings and technical accounting/audit matters
  • Ability to manage engagement expectations, status updates, issue escalation, and audit queries
  • Strong planning, prioritisation, and time management skills, including budgeting, WIP management, and deadline delivery
  • Ability to lead onsite/fieldwork, allocate work, and delegate to junior team members
  • Proven ability to coach and develop junior staff
  • Commercial awareness of audit delivery, efficiency, quality, and client/firm value
  • Proactive, self-motivated, solutions-focused approach
  • Adaptability to evolving standards, methodologies, and technology-enabled audit
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including working with large datasets
  • Familiarity with audit software and data analytics tools is beneficial
