Job summary

Workday, Inc. in Ireland is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to bridge domain expertise and production AI execution.

You will own end-to-end authoring, prompt architecture, and API integration for Workday’s core agentic capabilities with high visibility across the organization. You will collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to translate enterprise logic into deterministic, schema-compliant AI tools using state-of-the-art AI-assisted development environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience in Python or TypeScript with API integrations, backend services, or scripting.
• 1+ years of hands-on experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to author, refactor, and debug production code.
• Strong experience with REST APIs, JSON/YAML schemas, and structured data transformations.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong technical communication and interpersonal skills to translate requirements into clean technical specs.
• Solid grasp of prompt engineering, function calling, structured outputs, and MCP.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end authoring, prompt architecture, and API integration of AI skills powering Workday's agent capabilities.
• Operate AI-assisted editor tooling to generate, refactor, and refine prompt logic and MCP calls.
• Connect skills to backend systems via REST APIs and complex data structures for agent execution.
• Design automated test suites to stress-test skill edge cases and error handling before deployment.
• Review skill pull requests for schema compliance and API integrity.
