Job summary

Workday, Inc. is seeking an Applied AI Engineer in Ireland to bridge domain expertise and production AI execution.

You will own end-to-end authoring, prompt architecture, and API integration for Workday's core agentic capabilities, collaborating with Subject Matter Experts to translate enterprise logic into deterministic, schema-compliant AI tools. You will work with AI editors and engineers to ensure scalable, testable AI skill development, and contribute to cross-organizational initiatives

Qualifications

4+ years of software engineering experience in Python or TypeScript.
1+ year of hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code).
Experience with REST APIs, JSON/YAML, and structured data transformations.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Partner with domain experts to translate business logic into AI skill definitions.
Work with AI-assisted editors to generate and refine prompt logic and MCP tool calls.
Connect skills to backend systems by wiring enterprise REST APIs and MCP servers.
Refactor complex procedures into modular, executable schemas with clear data flow.
Design automated tests to stress edge cases, API bounds and error handling.
Establish best practices and review skill pull requests for schema and API integrity.
Support evaluation-driven development and CI/CD quality gates for production.
