Job summary

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is seeking an AI/ML Engineer in Ireland to build and run generative AI capabilities for new products. You will work across the full lifecycle from data prep to model deployment, in a hybrid model with Dublin/Letterkenny offices and home-based work.

You will bring hands-on ML/AI production experience in the cloud, strong Python/SQL skills, and a focus on responsible AI, privacy, and governance. Collaboration with stakeholders is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Hands-on experience deploying ML/AI in production in public clouds.
• Hands-on Generative AI apps using LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings, vector search.
• Solid understanding of classical ML: feature engineering, model selection, training and validation.
• Advanced Python and SQL with ML/data libraries.
• MLOps tools: experiment tracking, model versioning, automated deployment, monitoring.
• Software engineering practices: testing, version control, CI/CD, production support.
• Data preparation, pipelines, large datasets; cloud security and privacy principles.
• Ability to communicate AI concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy generative AI solutions grounded in enterprise healthcare data.
• Develop and productionize classical ML models including training and evaluation.
• Create evaluation harnesses, test sets, and quality metrics for GenAI systems.
• Implement MLOps practices: pipelines, CI/CD, monitoring for drift and reliability.
• Collaborate with data engineering on datasets, semantic layers, and indexes.
• Partner with product, security, governance to translate use cases into solutions.
• Apply responsible AI practices: privacy, safety, bias assessment, human-in-the-loop.
