Role Overview
The SAP Public Cloud Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and SAP SuccessFactors implementation projects, following the SAP Activate methodology. The role owns project planning, governance, financials, risk management, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery that meets agreed scope and quality standards.
The Project Manager acts as the primary point of accountability between the client, delivery teams, and SAP, driving Fit-to-Standard adoption, promoting a clean-core approach, and minimising custom development across both the ERP and Human Capital Management workstreams.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Delivery & Planning
- Own the full project lifecycle across all SAP Activate phases - Discover, Prepare, Explore, Realize, Deploy, and Run.
- Develop and maintain integrated project plans (Level 1–3), covering workstreams, tasks, dependencies, milestones, and stage gates.
- Coordinate delivery across both S/4HANA Public Cloud (Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain) and SuccessFactors (Employee Central, Recruiting, Payroll, Performance & Goals) workstreams.
- Manage release cycles aligned to SAP’s quarterly Public Cloud upgrade cadence (e.g. 2505, 2508).
Governance & Controls
- Establish and chair project governance forums (SteerCo, working groups, design authority).
- Manage stage gates with clear entry/exit criteria, and maintain the RAID log (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies).
- Own the change request process including impact assessment, approval, and baseline re-forecasting.
- Track project financials, resource forecasts, and budget-to-actuals.
Fit-to-Standard & Scope Management
- Drive Fit-to-Standard workshops, promoting adoption of standard SAP best-practice processes.
- Manage scope and the RICEFW / extension backlog, ensuring extensions are justified and follow the clean-core / SAP BTP approach.
- Oversee process documentation and mapping (e.g. SAP Signavio) and requirements traceability.
- Serve as the primary client-facing delivery contact, managing expectations and communications.
- Coordinate third-party vendors, SAP, and system integrator resources.
- Manage cutover, hypercare, and transition to support / Run phase.
Testing & Quality
- Oversee the test strategy across unit, integration (SIT), and user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Ensure quality gates, data migration validation, and defect management are enforced.
Required Skills & Experience
- Extensive project management experience, with a minimum of 3 full-cycle SAP implementations.
- Proven delivery experience with SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and SAP SuccessFactors.
- Deep knowledge of the SAP Activate methodology and cloud (SaaS) delivery models.
- Strong grasp of integration architecture (S/4HANA SuccessFactors, SAP BTP, iFlows, APIs).
- Experience with SAP Cloud ALM (CALM) for implementation and monitoring.
- Experience with Signavio for Process Mapping and integration with CALM.
- Demonstrable experience managing project governance, budgets, RAID, and change control.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification.
- Public sector / UK delivery experience (an advantage for public sector clients).
- Agile / hybrid delivery experience.
Key Performance Indicators
- On-time, on-budget delivery against baselined plan.
- Adherence to Fit-to-Standard (minimised custom development).
- Stakeholder satisfaction and successful stage-gate approvals.
- Effective risk and issue mitigation with no critical escalations.
