Job summary

ESB Generation and Trading in Dublin seeks a Safety Specialist for Distributed Generation to lead safety, health and environmental activities across assets including battery storage, solar and gas plants. You will drive SHIP targets, ensure ISO45001 compliance and lead incident investigations with cross‑functional teams.

The role offers hybrid working with occasional travel within ROI, and a clear path to influence safety culture across the DG portfolio as ESB pursues its net-zero strategy.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience
  • Level 7 or greater qualification in Health and Safety
  • Health & Safety experience within a utility similar
  • Knowledge of Safety and Health legislation, codes of practice and standards
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent influencing, leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Full valid driving license
  • Knowledge of power plant technologies, systems, and procedures
  • Experience and knowledge of working on power generation construction
  • ISO 45001 safety auditor training

Responsibilities

  • Operate with DG Management team to deliver targets in the DG Business Plan and SHIP.
  • Contribute to Department targets aligned with policy objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and ISO 45001.
  • Manage and co-ordinate Safety of DG Manual and Safety Management System.
  • Lead investigations of incidents and near misses; implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate Safety training for production team.
  • Integrate Safe System of Work and Safe and Sound into DG ops.
  • Develop improvement plans for Safety programs within time, cost, scope.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders and regulatory/licensing requirements.
  • Drive continuous safety improvements across DG and Renewable Operations.
  • Support mobilization of new DG assets and integration into Safety processes.
  • Provide Health and Wellbeing support in the department.

Distributed Generation is a department within Renewable Operations (ESB Generation and Trading) with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB’s distributed generation assets,consistingofBatteryEnergy, StorageSystems,Synchronous Condensers, Flexible Gas-Fired Generation plant and Solar sites.

As part of delivery of ESB’s Net Zero Strategy, it is our ambition that we will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030 with 1.7GW of offshore wind, 3.5GW of onshore wind and 900MW of solar and also further develop and operate renewables enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants and grid support devices.

Due to the significant expansion of the ESB Generation and Trading renewables portfolio, ESB isseekingto appoint a Distributed GenerationSafety Specialist.

The successful candidate willbe work as part of the Distributed Generation Safety, Health and Environment Team, with direct responsibility for aspects of the Safety management for Distributed Generation.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Operate as part of the wider Distributed Generation Management team in delivering against targets in the Distributed Generation Business Plan and Safety, Health and Improvement Plan (SHIP).
  • Contribute to the development of Department targets in line with Corporate and G&T policy and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation, accredited external standards and company standards including ISO 45001 accreditation.
  • Manage and co-ordinate the Safety of Distributed Generation Manual and Safety Management System.
  • Lead and participate in investigations of incidents and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Contribute to co-ordination of Safety training for the wider production team.
  • Ensure Safe System of Work and Safe and Sound are integrated into Distributed Generation operations.
  • Develop improvement plans to drive continuous improvement and ensure that all improvement programmes in all areas (Safety) are implemented within time, cost and scope targets.
  • Manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders in areas of Safety including the various regulatory and licensing requirements under which the Distributed Generation assets operate.
  • Drive continuous improvement and knowledge sharing in areas of Safety across Distributed Generation and wider Renewable Operations group.
  • Contribute to the mobilisation activities of new Distributed Generation assets and the integration into Safety processes.
  • Providing support in the area of Health and Wellbeing in the department.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience

Location

The successful candidate will be based at ESB Generation and Trading Offices in Dublin. Short term domestic travel toDistributed Generationsites in ROI are a featureduring the course oftheir work.

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

The successful candidate will report to Distributed Generation SHE Manager.
