Job description

About the Position

We are currently recruiting for a Risk Manager to join the Engineering & Major Projects function of a major organisation at the forefront of Ireland’s infrastructure and energy transition.

This is a senior opportunity to lead the development of a dedicated project and programme risk function supporting a significant capital investment portfolio, with individual project values ranging from €1m to €500m.

About the Role

As Risk Manager, you will lead a small team of risk professionals and provide strategic risk expertise across the full project lifecycle – from early-stage planning and procurement through to construction, commissioning and handover.

You’ll work closely with senior project leaders, programme teams, project sponsors and key stakeholders, providing the insight and assurance needed to identify risks early, develop effective mitigation strategies and give decision-makers greater confidence in project delivery.

A key part of the role will be developing and embedding robust portfolio, programme and project-level risk management frameworks, including the effective use of QCRA and QSRA, quantitative risk analysis and integrated cost and schedule risk modelling.

This is a role where your ability to influence senior stakeholders, translate complex risk analysis into clear commercial insight and lead a high-performing team will be critical.

This is an opportunity to take a high-profile leadership position within a major organisation delivering some of Ireland's most significant infrastructure and capital investment projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of risk management frameworks across major capital investment programmes
  • Establish and develop a dedicated project and programme Risk team, providing leadership, mentoring and professional development
  • Oversee comprehensive project and programme risk registers, ensuring risks, opportunities and mitigation actions are identified, tracked and escalated appropriately
  • Lead qualitative and quantitative risk assessments
  • Develop risk reporting and governance processes to provide senior management with clear visibility of programme risk
  • Provide strategic risk advice throughout the project lifecycle, from planning and procurement through to construction and handover
  • Advise project leadership on governance, programme controls, contract strategies and procurement approaches
  • Work with delivery teams to develop robust mitigation, contingency and opportunity strategies
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify emerging challenges and opportunities
  • Ensure project and programme risk management is aligned with wider enterprise risk management frameworks
  • Engage with senior stakeholders, project sponsors and external stakeholders to communicate risk insights and support informed decision-making
Experience/Requirements
  • 10+ years' experience in risk management, assurance or project controls across major infrastructure or capital projects
  • Strong experience managing risk across complex projects, ideally within energy, utilities, transport, construction or major public infrastructure
  • Proven experience with QCRA, QSRA, Monte Carlo simulations and quantitative cost and schedule risk modelling
  • Strong understanding of project risks across cost, schedule, procurement, governance, commercial, regulatory and stakeholder interfaces
  • Experience using risk management and project controls tools such as Primavera Risk Analysis, @Risk or Safran
  • Good knowledge of project management processes and major forms of contract, including FIDIC
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills, with the ability to present technical risk analysis at senior and board level
  • A proven track record of taking ownership, delivering objectives and providing strategic advice to project and programme leadership
  • A relevant third-level qualification in Engineering, Construction, Risk Management or a related discipline
Remuneration Package

An excellent package is on offer, including a hybrid policy. You will also receive a pension and a bonus.
