Job description

Ayesa is a global engineering consultancy with over 13,000 employees, where our UK & Ireland business combines international strength with the agility and autonomy of an SME.

With a presence in 40 countries, Ayesa has built a strong international reputation across a diverse range of engineering disciplines. Our expertise includes water and flood infrastructure, transportation, marine and coastal engineering, geoscience, environmental services, energy, and building structures.

Our UK & Ireland teams deliver technically challenging, varied projects that develop broad expertise without confining people to narrow roles — offering the opportunity to make a meaningful local impact while benefiting from the stability, knowledge, and career opportunities of a well-established global organisation.

What You Will Be Doing:

Ayesa is seeking a Resident Engineer (RE) to work on an infrastructure project where the construction works, based in Dublin, include dewatering and condition surveys of existing tunnels and shafts containing two siphon pipelines, leak remediation, shotcrete encapsulation works, refurbishment of associated pipework/fittings, and refurbishment of chambers, penstocks and access infrastructure at a number of locations along the route.

The RE will be providing day-to-day oversight of the works on behalf of the Employer’s Representative (ER). The role will include monitoring construction progress and quality, reviewing compliance with the design and contract requirements, maintaining site records, coordinating with the Contractor and project team, and supporting the ER in the administration and delivery of the works.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Assist the Employer’s Representative, Project Manager and Employer in ensuring that the works are carried out in accordance with the Contract Documents.
  • Supervise and monitor site activities to ensure that the required construction standards, specifications and approved design requirements are achieved.
  • Monitor the dewatering of the existing tunnels and shafts and the measures implemented to maintain suitable conditions for inspection and construction activities.
  • Oversee condition surveys, inspections and associated investigations of the existing tunnels, shafts, chambers, pipework, fittings and other infrastructure.
  • Monitor remediation works, including leak repairs, shotcrete encapsulation and refurbishment of existing pipework, fittings, chambers, penstocks and access infrastructure.
  • Witness and record inspections, testing and quality control activities, ensuring that appropriate records and certification are provided by the Contractor.
  • Monitor and record progress against the Contractor’s programme and identify delays, constraints or sequencing issues affecting the works.
  • Manage site records and procedures to support accurate record-keeping, assessment of variations and effective management of contractual claims.
  • Maintain concise and accurate site records, including a daily site diary, photographs, progress records, inspection records and details of labour, plant and significant activities.
  • Review and comment on Contractor submissions relevant to the works, including method statements, inspection and test plans, technical submissions and construction proposals.
  • Prepare clear and concise weekly reports on construction progress, quality, programme, site issues and other matters requiring attention by the Employer’s Representative.
  • Coordinate with the Contractor, Designer, Employer and wider project team to ensure site queries, technical issues and required decisions are communicated and addressed promptly.
  • Oversee site investigations, surveys and testing to ensure that works are appropriately recorded and that results are issued promptly to the relevant parties.
What You Bring:
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering (level 7 in the National Framework of Qualifications) or equivalent professional qualification in engineering.
  • Possess at least seven years of satisfactory experience in civil, water or wastewater engineering, including experience working as a Resident Engineer or in a similar site supervision role on major construction projects.
  • The candidate must be based in Ireland and be willing to relocate at their own cost, if required. No visa or hotel expenses will be included.
  • Possess a high standard of technical training and experience.
  • Must have asbestos awareness training, or prior experience working around asbestos containing material.
  • Direct experience in the delivery of water or wastewater infrastructure projects, preferably including rehabilitation of existing assets, pipelines, chambers, shafts, tunnels and reinforced concrete structures.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and the Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Project.
  • Direct experience working in urban environments, including engagement with multiple stakeholders.
  • Detailed experience of fulfilling duties required by the Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations, 2013, including ensuring, on behalf of the Employer, that the duties of the PSCS, PSDP, Designer and Contractor are implemented across the project.
  • Proven ability to monitor and report on construction progress, quality, compliance with design and specification requirements, and Contractor performance.
  • Experience maintaining detailed site records, reviewing Contractor submissions, witnessing inspections and testing, and supporting the administration of construction contracts.
