Thrive: Trinity College Dublin's Strategic Plan 2025 - 2030
This Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will work with the PI (Prof. Iris Möller) in ensuring delivery ofthe PEACEPLUS‘CMAP’ (Coastal Monitoring and Adaptation Planning) project as part of the Trinity Coastal Research Group based in Geography, School of Natural Sciences, Trinity College Dublin. CMAP’s key objective is to promote climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention and resilience, taking into account eco-system-based approaches.
The Research Fellow will co-supervise the project’s Research Assistant, also based in Prof. Möller’s group in Trinity College, to deliver the first and second work package of the research project (‘Coastal Change Monitoring’ and ‘Ecosystem Recovery and Baseline Evidence’). This will involve the placement of monitoring equipment for salt marsh elevation, accretion, sediment composition, tidal inundation and wave exposure assessments. The post holder will also implement additional advanced monitoring, including tidal, wave, and suspended sediment transport processes at all Irish focal sites within the CMAP project. Tasks involve the procurement of appropriate equipment, experimental field design and deployment of equipment as well as data processing, archiving for public repositories, and publication. The activities are thus split between some desk-based and some field-based work.
The Research Fellow will assist the project’s Trinity-based Research Assistant to guide project partners in the implementation of sedimentation-elevation table and bed-mounted water pressure based wate level and wave monitoring. Importantly, they will also assist our local authority and non-governmental organisation partners to build a virtual coastal salt marsh hub focused on Dundalk on the east coast of Ireland. This will involve co-creating engagement activities at and around all salt marsh within the project with a particular focus on the salt marshes of Dundalk. Frequent travel to/from project sites throughout the duration of the position is expected.
