Job summary

Lever, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer, Trust & Safety, based in Ireland, for a fully remote role. You will build real-time anti-abuse systems within email infrastructure, spanning backend services, ML integration, and scalable detection pipelines, while maintaining security and user experience.

The role offers ownership of technical decisions, cross-team collaboration, and opportunities to work on high-impact safety features across distributed systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and React.
• Go experience or willingness to use it for latency-sensitive backends.
• Solid infra and reliability engineering with AWS, AWS CDK, Datadog.

Responsibilities

• Build real-time enforcement systems with millisecond latency.
• Design scalable detection pipelines from signals across email, account activity, and sending/receiving flows.
• Develop and refine detection rules and enforcement policies.
• Detect and contain account takeovers and leaked API keys with safe failover.
• Establish feedback mechanisms to measure enforcement accuracy and policy impact.
• Automate investigations, appeals, and bulk enforcement actions.
• Develop ML classifiers for spam and phishing detection with precision checks.
• Implement safeguards to reduce false positives and enable reversible decisions.
• Maintain observability with logs, metrics, tracing, and auditing for enforcement.
