Job summary

Twilio is seeking a Staff Site Reliability Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. You will own the reliability posture of significant parts of our production estate, write code to improve service reliability, and lead on-call responses.

This hands-on role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, observability, and cross-team collaboration. You will work in a remote-first environment based in Ireland, with occasional in-person participation for team gatherings or customer

Qualifications

8+ years of related engineering experience focused on reliability, infra, or platform engineering.
Pager ownership for critical production services and owning the outcome when they fail.
Strong software engineering fundamentals: you ship production code, not only configure tooling.
Experience defining and operating SLIs/SLOs and using error budgets to guide priorities.
Depth in production operations: incident command, post-mortems, capacity planning, observability.
Track record of reducing recurrence and operational toil beyond ticket closure.
Experience driving changes that span multiple teams with strong communication.
Mentorship and code review to raise team quality.
Experience with large-scale distributed systems in a cloud environment.

Responsibilities

Own the reliability posture of production services in your area—availability, latency, capacity, efficiency, performance, and monitoring/alerting.
Define, instrument, and operate against SLIs/SLOs; use error budgets to drive priorities.
Identify trends and risk to mitigate stability issues before customer impact.
Drive down repair items and prevent classes of incidents rather than solving them one-by-one.
Improve detection, response, and recovery—faster acknowledgement, mitigation, and restoration.
Design for failure; validate recovery paths and ensure safe production changes.
Participate in on-call and lead the response when production is degraded.
Write post-mortems and drive follow-up work to completion.
Oversee efforts to diagnose, report, and document production problems across reliability dimensions.
Write, configure, deploy code that measurably improves reliability and is well tested.
Orchestrate complex changes across systems with clear design decisions and migration plans.
Lead debugging and analysis of service architecture and design; contribute code reviews.
