Job summary

Daffodil Care Group is recruiting Relief Social/Residential Care Workers for Aftercare services in Carlow and Gorey. You will support vulnerable young adults aged 18–23, guiding them toward independence in a trauma-informed setting while working a rotational 48-hour week including evenings, weekends and overnights.

We value strong communication, de-escalation skills, and the ability to work both as a lone worker and within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 7 qualification (degree) or above in one of the listed fields.
  • Eligible to register as a Social Care Worker with CORU.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized interventions to young adults aged 18–23 to support independence.
  • Act as an advocate for residents and safeguard their welfare.
  • Work as part of a team while operating as a lone worker to maintain a safe, trauma-informed environment.

Relief Social Care Worker

Daffodil Care Services are currently recruiting Relief Social/Residential care workers for our Aftercare services in Carlow town or Gorey Town.

What we do:

Daffodil Care Services has developed a nationwide network of aftercare services consisting of both residential and comprehensive outreach services. Our residential aftercare services are fully staffed 24/7 providing timely support to vulnerable young adults as they progress to independent living. Our aftercare teams are dedicated to ensuring young adults get both the support and experience required in preparation for independent living.

The role:

This is a dynamic service, providing individualised interventions to young adults aged 18 – 23 years, to enable them to live in safety and with stability and support to begin their journey to independence. Working as a Social/Residential Care Worker you will support guide and lead by example the vulnerable young people in our care, in conjunction with the wider multidisciplinary team involved in their care.

You will ensure the welfare of those under your care and will act as an advocate as appropriate.

The service will provide 24/7 support to ensure their safety, promote their stability, and build resilience to enable them to develop their independent living skills. You will work as a lone worker but part of a team to provide a safe, caring and trauma informed environment for the residents with the primary aim of providing the interventions necessary to aid them moving into full independent living.

You will support and empower vulnerable young adults to identify goals and person-centered targets while working through the process of gaining independence.

Hours of Work: Rotational shift pattern rolling roster (average 48 hours per week) including the requirement to work evenings, weekends and overnights.

Typically, the shift pattern is based on 2 x sleepover shifts per week. Typically shifts start at 11am sleeping night at midnight, commence again at 8am and finish at 11.30am

The following are desirable but not essential:

  • Experience of using a high level or communication skills, both verbally and in writing, using Microsoft Office applications
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • A good understanding of addictions and the physical, mental and emotional side effects.
  • De-escalation and managing challenging behaviors inclusive of Crisis management and prevention.
  • Experience of supporting young adults (under 25) who have experienced any of the following:-care system, - justice system, - prison, -institutional care, -supported accommodation
  • Understanding of trauma informed care
  • Lone working experience and managing shifts in a low threshold residential setting.
  • Experience of working with the complex and compound traumas of children who have been through the care system E.g., poly substance misuse, dual diagnosis, maladaptive behaviours, working with and understanding trauma, mental health issues, etc.

  • Incremental pay scale
  • Typical schedule of twenty four-hour (sleepover) shifts - can be a combination of sleepover and 12 hour shifts to suit the needs of the service.
About the role

Qualifications Required:

Minimum Level 7 qualification (degree) or above in one of the following:

  • Psychology
  • Professional Practice Qualification in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy
  • Professional Practice Qualification in Counselling / Psychotherapy
  • Professional Practice Qualification in Addiction Counselling
  • Youth and Community or similar
  • Social Science / Social Studies
  • Family Support
  • Teaching (Not TEFL)
  • Professional Qualification in Nursing Studies
  • Disability Studies
  • Applied Behavioural Analysis
  • BA in Applied Policing or equivalent
  • Holder of Higher Certificate in Custodial Care (Irish Prison Service) or equivalent
