Qualifications

• Reinsurance experience, particularly facultative reinsurance.

• Property class underwriting is the priority; exposure to marine/engineering/bonds is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to improve processes and drive operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operations across the entire business, including reinsurance, direct insurance, and MGA divisions.
• Review end-to-end processes and identify improvements.

About the Client

Our client is an established and growing insurance and reinsurance business. It operates across multiple jurisdictions and its activity includes facultative and treaty reinsurance, direct insurance and MGA binder portfolios. The business writes property, marine, engineering and bonds. As it has grown, it now needs a dedicated senior hire to oversee operations across the whole company. The business places real value on building contingency into every division and on developing its people through mentoring, support for further study and clear progression.

The Role

This is a senior role with responsibility for operations across the entire business. In practice, the role will act as Underwriting Manager and effectively run the office. The successful candidate will review processes end to end and make sure each division runs efficiently and works in step with the others.

Key Responsibilities

• Overseeing operations across the entire business, including the reinsurance, direct and MGA divisions
• Reviewing processes end to end and identifying improvements
• Ensuring all SOPs are kept up to date
• Streamlining workflows so the business runs efficiently
• Making sure each division operates in sync and connects effectively with the others
• Overseeing back-office processes and documentation control
• Acting as Underwriting Manager and taking a lead role in running the office

Requirements

• Reinsurance experience is essential, particularly facultative reinsurance
• A strong grasp of both insurance and reinsurance
• A senior reinsurance underwriting background, with the ability to step up into an Underwriting Manager role
• Property class experience is the priority. Exposure to marine, engineering or bonds would be an advantage
• Strong operational experience will be considered alongside technical reinsurance knowledge

Working Arrangements

• Galway-based candidates: hybrid, with either three days in the office and two from home, or two days in the office and three from home
• Dublin-based candidates: an initial training period in Galway, then in the office once or twice a month
• Exceptional candidates may be considered for remote working, provided they are based in Ireland
