Job summary

MSC provides critical equipment and support to clinical, life science and pharmaceutical labs across Ireland. We seek refrigeration and air conditioning apprentices in the later stages to join and complete their apprenticeship while gaining specialist experience in labs, hospitals and pharmaceutical facilities.

The role offers mentoring from experienced engineers, exposure to laboratory refrigeration technology, and travel across Ireland and Northern Ireland with limited overnight stays.

Qualifications

• Currently undertaking a recognised Refrigeration and Air Conditioning apprenticeship, with candidates in the later stages of their apprenticeship particularly encouraged to apply.
• Previous practical experience carrying out refrigeration service, maintenance or installation work.
• Full clean EU driving licence.
• Good understanding of refrigeration systems and fault-finding principles.
• Strong practical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills and a professional approach when working on customer sites.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a technical team.
• Willingness to travel throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, including occasional overnight stays.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to completing work and documentation to a high standard.

Responsibilities

• Carry out installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of refrigeration equipment.
• Complete routine preventive maintenance and service work on laboratory and medical refrigeration equipment.
• Diagnose refrigeration, electrical and control-related faults.
• Assist with commissioning and testing of new equipment.
• Travel to customer sites throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland.
• Work directly with customers in hospitals, laboratories, pharmaceutical facilities and other regulated environments.
• Develop your knowledge of specialist laboratory refrigeration and associated control systems.
• Troubleshoot equipment software and controls and carry out firmware updates where required.
• Complete service documentation and reports accurately and to a high standard.
• Provide technical support and basic equipment training to customers as your knowledge and experience develop.
• Work with the wider MSC Service and Sales teams to identify opportunities to support customers with replacement equipment, upgrades and additional services.

Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Apprentice

MSC provides critical equipment, supplies and technical support to the clinical, life science and pharmaceutical industries throughout Ireland.

Due to continued growth, we are looking to expand our dedicated refrigeration team and are particularly interested in speaking with refrigeration and air conditioning apprentices who are currently in the later stages of their apprenticeship and would like to continue their training and development with MSC.

This role offers the opportunity to complete your apprenticeship while gaining experience in a specialist area of refrigeration, working primarily within laboratories, hospitals, pharmaceutical manufacturers and other controlled environments.

Our refrigeration team currently includes experienced qualified engineers who will provide ongoing technical support, mentoring and training.

Our engineers primarily work on specialist laboratory and medical refrigeration equipment rather than supermarket, industrial or domestic refrigeration systems. This generally means working in clean, professional environments such as hospitals, laboratories and pharmaceutical facilities.

The role also offers a more predictable working pattern than many areas of the refrigeration industry:

• Predominantly Monday to Friday daytime work

• No shift work

• No routine overnight supermarket refrigeration work

• Limited out-of-hours requirements

• Travel throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, with occasional overnight stays

Duties and Responsibilities

Training and Development

MSC will support the successful candidate in continuing and completing their refrigeration and air conditioning apprenticeship.
